The main purpose of this paper is to amplify the current theoretical scenery of Mental Health and Work area. Therefore, the text is also based on our own contributions to this area in the last ten years of empirical and theoretical research within the context of industrial production and services. The study discusses the psychological effects of contemporary work, by entering into the Work and Mental Health field. It also discusses the theoretical and practical aspects of the relationships between contemporary work organizations and subjectivity, according to Psychodynamics of Work, based on it’s theory of Psychoanalysis and on the comprehensive tradition of hermeneutics sciences. The current contributions of the Dejourian Clinic of Work was used to understand the relationship between mental health and work. There are also references to Psychodynamics of Work applied in contemporary organizations (industry and services) based on Dejour’s theoretic-methodological proposal.

The main objective of this paper is to analyze, in detail, the embodied cognition as an incorporated action in a continuous process control. The method of research adopted was the ergonomic work analysis. The results show that the operators do not represent an external world, but instead they act think and act independently. The key point in this study is that lacking an internal representation the workers (operators) engage in Sensory-Motor Activities in work practical activities in response to environmental changes. There is no rupture among the perceiving, feeling, and thinking experiences. This study aims at investigating how socio and cultural processes are demanded to develop image-schemata and embodied-schemata, which can lead to abstract thinking using perception skills and motor response. This work suggests that linguistic expressions and higher cognitive processes evidence recurrent body experience dynamic patterns denominated image-schemata. It was founded that these patterns can be extended to non-tactile, non-physical, and non-visual experience structures.

Based on the new paradigm of cognitive sciences, this paper deals with an ontological rupture having an objectivist approach to the Operating-Representation in cognitive ergonomics. Actuationism is an embodied-enactive view. According to this approach, cognitive processes are seen as emerging or enacted by situated agents (workers). The Actuationistic approach is important underpinning various contributions in ergonomics. This work is the result of research done on real production systems using an ergonomic work analysis. It identified and characterized an ontological failure present in the operating-activity analysis: An isolated observer observing the object by the actuation distinguishes between them. This results in perception, interpretation and action differences, which, historically, have made an in-depth knowledge about how the work process functions impracticable. Currently, the processes, which seemed to be like routines, approach a new competence notion, the actuationistic or cognitive competence, necessary to deal with the continuity and flow in productive processes.
