Abstract We make a theoretical study of chiral symmetry breaking for a QCD-like gauge theory at finite temperature and density. We use a composite-operator functional formalism based on an effective action extending previous calculations for zero temperature and density. Study of the phase diagram shows the existence on the critical line of a point separating second order from first order phase transitions.

Abstract We find that our previous calculation of the pion decay constant at finite temperature, ƒ π (T) , which satisfies the universability condition near the critical chiral temperature, used in conjuction with finite energy sum rules at non zero temperature, suggests coincidence or almost coincidence of the critical temperatures for deconfinement and chirality restoration in QCD.

We study the thermodynamics of massive Gross-Neveu models with explicitly broken discrete or continuous chiral symmetries for finite temperature and fermion densities. The large
