Coeficientes de variação de algumas características do meloeiro: uma proposta de classificação

Lonjoré Leocádio de Lima; Glauber Henrique de Sousa Nunes; Francisco Bezerra Neto

A proposal for classifying the coefficients of variation of melon yield, fruit weight, fruit number, soluble solids content, pulp firmness, total sugars, pH and total titrable acidity was established in data from melon experiments carried out in Mossoro, Brazil. The CV values came from 98 works, mostly from theses and monographs submitted to the faculty of Mossoro. The variation coefficients (CV) were classified according to Garcias (1989) proposal and sample quantiles. A disagreement in the observed frequencies between these two methodologies proposed in this paper and that of Pimentel Gomes (1985) for total sugars, soluble solids content, fruit weight, pH, yield and number of fruits was observed. Small differences were observed in the low, medium and high CV bands for total titrable acidity. However, very high CV band for any assessed characteristic, based on the Pimentel Gomes (1985) classification was not observed. A very good agreement between the classifications proposed by Garcia (1989) and sample quantiles, and that of Pimentel Gomes (1985) for pulp firmness was observed. In general, the classifications proposed by Garcia (1989) and sample quantiles were more appropriate to evaluate the melon yield and quality traits than that of Pimentel Gomes (1985).

The objective of this work was to evaluate the growth of green pepper cv. Atlantis under different spatial arrangements. Three spacing arrangements between double and simple planting rows (1.5x0.5 m, 1.6x0.4 m and 1.7x0.3 m) and four spacing distances between plants in the rows (0.2, 0.3, 0.4 and 0.5 m) combined in factorial scheme were evaluated. A randomized block design in split-plots divided in time with three replicates was used. The growth assessment was done in nine occasions, 14 days apart, and the first one was performed 14 days after transplanting (DAT). Leaf area (LA), leaf area index (LAI), dry masses of leaves (LDM), stem (SDM), fruit (FrDM) and total shoot (TDM); absolute growth rate (AGR), rates of net assimilation (NAR) and relative growth (RGR); and leaf area (LAR) and leaf mass (LWR) ratios were evaluated until 126 DAT. The changes in LA, RGR, LWR and LAR did not depend on row spacing, but spacing influenced LDM, SDM, FrDM and TDM, LAI and AGR. The increase in spacing reduces LAI and LAR, and increases LA, LDM, SDM, FrDM, TDM, AGR and NAR, but does not influence RGR and LWR.

DIVERGÊNCIA GENÉTICA ENTRE GENÓTIPOS DE FEIJOEIRO A PARTIR DE TÉCNICAS MULTIVARIADAS

Cristina de Fátima Machado; Glauber Henrique de Sousa Nunes; Daniel Furtado Ferreira; João Bosco dos Santos

Multivariate techniques were used to evaluate the genetic divergence among genotypes of common bean, aiming to identify segregating populations with large genetic variability. The multivariate techniques used were: the average Euclidean distance based on standardized variables (de), on scores of the three first canonical variables (dvc), on scores of the first three principal components (dcp), on the first three factor loads (dft), and the Mahalanobis generalized distance (D2). Twelve common bean genotypes were used (Apore, H-4-7, PF-9029975, CI-128, Carioca MG, CI-21, Carioca 300V, Ouro Negro, A-285 Ruda, ESAL 693, Perola e IAC Carioca Arua), and evaluated in four seasons (Jul-Nov/97, Nov/97-Feb/98, Feb-Jun/98 and Jul-Nov/98), based on ten morpho-agronomic traits. A randomized block design with three replications was utilized. The multivariate techniques showed similar results mainly for identifing the more divergent genotypes. Among them, ESAL 693 and Ouro Negro were genetically different between themselves and among the other genotypes. PF-9029975 and Carioca MG were genetically similar, although different of other genotypes according to average Euclidean procedures. It should be pointed out that Apore genotype was divergent of Perola genotype, although the last one is a selected line in the Apore. Therefore, all of those genetically divergent genotypes are promissing to cross for obtaining higher segregating populations, specially ESAL 693 with the others that have a carioca grain type. A resonable correspondence was found in the identification of traits with smallest contribution to genetic diversity.

The objective of this work was to study the genetic divergence among lines of Pele de Sapo melon evaluated in Mossoro-RN, Brazil. Twenty lines were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications. The genetic divergence was evaluated by multivariate procedures: generalized distance of Mahalanobis, methods of grouping optimization of Tocher and UPGMA. The traits assessed were: The traits evaluated were: total number of fruits, productivity, average weight of fruits, transversal diameter, diameter longitudinal, format index, internal cavity, pulp thickness, pulp firmness, soluble solids content, concentration of harvesting and weight loss. There was partial concordance regarding the composition of the groups formed by the methods of optimizing Tocher and UPGMA. The traits that most contributed to the divergence have been pulp firmness (20.69%) and soluble solids (10.94%). The presence of genetic variability allowed the identification of cultivars dissimilar and with a mean high for the traits studied. The crosses suggested in the study of genetics divergence were: SA-13 x TH-03, SA-13 x TH-04, SA-13 x TH-05, SA-13 x TH-07, SA-13 x TH-09, SA-13 x SA-17, TH-05 x TH-04, TH-05 x SA-10, TH-05 x SA-12, TH-05 x SA-14 and TH-05 x SA-14.

Glauber Henrique de Sousa Nunes; Antônio Edilberto de Sousa Madeiros; Leilson Costa Grangeiro; Gilmara Mabel Santos; Rui Sales Júnior

The objective of this work was to estimate the participation of single and complex components of interaction as well as to identify cultivars with high phenotypic adaptability and stability. Twelve hybrids of yellow melon were evaluated in four sites of Rio Grande do Norte in 2000, 2001, 2002 coming to twelve environments. The experiments were carried out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The experimental plot was constituted by two 5 m long rows. Yield and total soluble solids contents were evaluated. For the partition of the hybrids by environments interaction in single and complex part, the method of Cruz and Castoldi was used. In order to indentify hybrids with high phenotypic adaptability and stability, the Toler method was utilized. Great variation among environments and hybrids as well as interaction were observed between these two factors. The complex part is responsible for most of the environment hybrids interaction. Hybrids AMR-04 and AMR-12, comprising higher means to yield and total soluble solids content, are responsive to the improved environment.

The growing of lettuce plants in tropical regions has been painful under high temperatures and ample luminosity, substantially affecting the crop cycle and yield. The effect of shading on lettuce seedlings production was evaluated in relation to three types of shading-net in four heights from the bed, under high temperature conditions and ample luminosity. An experiment was conducted in Mossoro, Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil, in a completely randomized design in split-plot scheme, with three replications. The factor assigned to the plots was constituted by shading-net colors (white, green and black) plus a control (without net) and the other assigned to the subplots was constituted by net heights in the bed (20; 30; 40 and 50 cm above soil surface). Evaluations of plant height and diameter, number of leaves per plant, shoot fresh mass and plant growth rate were made on lettuce seedlings. There was a significant interaction between types of nets and their distances on leaf number per plant, shoot fresh mass and growth rate of lettuce seedlings. Seedlings grown under green net were significantly taller than those under white net. On the other hand, seedlings grown under green net were significantly larger than those under white and black net. Tallest and largest seedlings were obtained from lettuce cultivated under open sky. Highest quantity of shoot fresh mass and plant growing rate were obtained under white net shading at about 30 cm above soil surface.
