Imazalil, cypermethrin and carbendazim are detected in plants for human nutrition. To explore whether their combinations, applied orally in low doses, would induce changes in metabolic patterns and hepatotoxicity, a subchronic in vivo experiment was conducted. Doses of 10mg/kg of imazalil (im) and cypermethrin (cy) and 20 mg/kg of carbendazim (car) and their combinations (im, 10 mg/kg+cy, 10mg/kg; im, 10mg/kg+car, 20mg/kg; car, 20 mg/kg + im, 10 mg/kg) were given to Swiss mice daily over 28 days. After 24 hr from the last dose, the relationships of cytotoxicity biomarkers were analysed: serum lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate transaminase, alanine transferase, amylase, alkaline phosphatase, creatine kinase, creatinine and total proteins. Individual pesticides showed different toxic potential (cy>im car) generally characterized by increase in enzyme activities. Histological analysis showed that cypermethrin, but not imazalil or carbendazim, alone can cause mild necrosis. Combinations generally caused decrease in the activity of enzymes, indicating liver damage. Low doses of carbendazim in combination with low doses of imazalil or cypermethrin caused very pronounced hepatic necrosis, more than any of the three individually applied pesticides or combination of imazalil and cypermethrin. In fruits and vegetables for human consumption, residues of these three pesticides and prolonged combined intake of low doses, which by themselves acutely would not cause any effect, may have similar hepatotoxic effects.

A morphodynamic stability analysis of gravel beach cross-section by 1D numerical model

Numerical Modelling of Oil Spills in the Area of Kvarner and Rijeka Bay (The Northern Adriatic Sea)

Goran Lončar; Gordana Beg Paklar; Ivica Janeković

Several hypothetical cases of oil spills from tankers in the Kvarner and Rijeka Bay were analyzed using three-dimensional circulation models coupled with oil spill model. Two circulation models—local one covering the area of Kvarner Bay, Rijeka Bay, and Vinodol channel along with the basin-wide one covering the whole Adriatic Sea—are connected through the one-way nesting procedure by imposing the results from the Adriatic model to the open boundaries of the local one. Oil spill model relays on the current fields obtained by the local circulation model during all our simulations. Spreading of the oil pollution from three hypothetical positions of tanker accidents in the local model domain was simulated for the periods of 10 “winter-season” and “summer-season” days. The oil spill model results show that the hypothetical tanker accidents in the center of the Rijeka Bay are the most dangerous for the studied area in both seasons. Summer-season case shows significantly worse situation from the ecological point of view, oil spills spread on the larger area simply because stratification and mixing present during the winter period reduce oil slick effect.

Analysis of vertical pressure load exerted on horizontal RC plates by wave impact

Goran Lončar; Dalibor Carević; Damir Bekić

The analysis of dynamic pressure load exerted on the caisson structure bottom cover plate subjected to wave action is presented and illustrated by the example of Zagreb Pier in the Port of Rijeka. In addition to physical model measurements, empirical models are applied using input data from the linear wave theory and numerical model. The reliability of the applied methodology is assessed through comparison of measured and modelled values. The best correspondence between the measured and modelled results is obtained using the linear wave theory and the Kaplans (1995) empirical model.

Basic plan dimensions of marinas in Croatia

Dalibor Carević; Goran Lončar; Neven Kuspilić

Radi unaprjeđenja urbanistickog i ekonomskog planiranja nautickog turizma u Hrvatskoj, u ovom je radu provedena analiza i prezentacija tlocrtnih parametara 39 postojecih hrvatskih marina. Prikupljeni tlocrtni parametri su: broj vezova, broj suhih vezova, duljina lukobrana, duljina fiksnih gatova, duljina pontona, duljina obala, povrsina akvatorija, povrsina teritorija, ukupna povrsina, povrsina suhog veza i povrsina parkiralista. U radu su prikazane ovisnosti navedenih parametara u funkciji broja vezova u moru te su definirani prosjecni statisticki pokazatelji navedenih parametara koji karakteriziraju gradnju marina u Hrvatskoj.
