OBJECT: The object of this study is to determine the roles of psychiatry nurses within the therapeutic environment of psychiatry clinics in Turkey. METHODS: This study was performed in a cross‐sectional and descriptive design in 195 institutes comprising psychiatry clinics in Turkey. RESULTS: When the responsibilities of nurses for clinical activities were asked, the following answers were obtained: playing with patients or painting at a rate of 54,4%. It was determined that in the majority of psychiatry clinics, there were educational activities which were conducted by nurses. CONCLUSION: The researchers propose that the increase in the roles and responsibilities of nurses in such activities be supported. HIGHLIGHTSPsychiatry clinics have quite an important place in the treatment of psychological problems.A nurse of the psychiatry department is the primary person responsible for providing the requirements of the therapeutic environment in clinics.It is unknown what the status of the characteristics of the therapeutic environments in Turkey.This study contributes to literature by obtaining data on the therapeutic environment of the psychiatry clinics in Turkey and the roles the nurses of psychiatry department to the development of the understanding of contemporary psychiatry.

This study aims to determine the relationship of exercise dependence to smartphone addiction and the emotional intelligence levels of gym-goers in the province of Burdur, Turkey. The study is a cross-sectional epidemiological research study. The research data were collected between 15 March and 1 June, 2017. The population of the study consisted of 822 individuals who exercised regularly (at least three times a week) in fitness centers located in the province of Burdur. An attempt was made to reach the entire population without sample selection. Seven hundred seventy-eight individuals were reached. The participation level of the study was 94.6%. The “Personal Information Form”, the “Exercise Dependence Scale-21” (EDS-21), the “Smartphone Addiction Scale Short Form-II” (SAS-SF), and the “Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale” (SEIS) were used for data collection. It was found that the individuals with over-exercise had a high level of smartphone overuse and a low level of utilization of emotions.

Material and Methods: The present study was performed cross-sectionally and descriptively in 195 institutes comprising the psychiatry clinic in Turkey. A survey of 42 questions was used that included the characteristics of clinics obtained by reviewing the literature and listing specialist opinions. Data were collected via telephone between June 25, 2014 and July 15, 2015. Analysis of data was performed using the SPSS 18.0 software. Numbers and percentages were used as descriptive statistics with respect to hospitals. Results: It was found that 63.1% of clinics had 6–10 nurses, 77.9% of them had 1–10 doctors, and 37.4% of them did not have a visit room, whereas 47.2% of them had an occupation room. It was discovered that 99% of clinic activities for patients were performed, 45.6% of them with occupational therapy were not performed, 16.9% of them with occupational therapy were performed, and 57.5% of them with regular sport activities were not performed. It was detected that psychoeducation was not performed in 66.2% of the clinics, whereas it was performed in 33.8% of them. Conclusions: It was observed that when the results of the study were evaluated, there were deficiencies in physical configuration in our country and limited therapeutic activities.
