In this study, the temperature dependencies of magnetic response functions of the anhydrous dihalides of iron-group elements are examined in the neighborhood of multi-critical points (tricritical, critical end point, double critical end point) and first order transition temperatures within molecular field approximation. Our findings reveal the fact that metamagnetic Ising system exhibits anomalies in the temperature dependence of the magnetic response functions for r < 0, 3. In addition, we extensively investigated how an interand intra-layer exchange interaction ratio can influence magnetic response properties of these systems. Finally, a comparison is made with related works.

Abstract In this study, the temperature variations of the equilibrium and the non-equilibrium antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic susceptibilities of a metamagnetic system are examined near the critical point. The kinetic equations describing the time dependencies of the total and staggered magnetizations are derived by utilizing linear response theory. In order to obtain dynamic magnetic relaxation behavior of the system, the stationary solutions of the kinetic equations in existence of sinusoidal staggered and physical external magnetic fields are performed. In addition, the static and dynamical mean field critical exponents are calculated in order to formulate the critical behavior of antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic magnetic response of a metamagnetic system. Finally, a comparison of the findings of this study with previous theoretical and experimental studies is represented and it is shown that a good agreement is found with our results.

The ferromagnetic phase of an Ising model in d=3 , with any amount of quenched antiferromagnetic bond randomness, is shown to undergo a transition to a spin-glass phase under sufficient quenched bond dilution. This result, demonstrated here with the numerically exact global renormalization-group solution of a d=3 hierarchical lattice, is expected to hold true generally, for the cubic lattice and for quenched site dilution. Conversely, in the ferromagnetic-spin-glass-antiferromagnetic phase diagram, the spin-glass phase expands under quenched dilution at the expense of the ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic phases. In the ferromagnetic-spin-glass phase transition induced by quenched dilution, reentrance as a function of temperature is seen, as previously found in the ferromagnetic-spin-glass transition induced by increasing the antiferromagnetic bond concentration.

The Ising models S=1/2 and S=1 are studied by efficient Monte Carlo schemes on the (3,4,6,4) and the (3,3,3,3,6) Archimedean lattices. The algorithms used, a hybrid Metropolis-Wolff algorithm and a parallel tempering protocol, are briefly described and compared with the simple Metropolis algorithm. Accurate Monte Carlo data are produced at the exact critical temperatures of the Ising model for these lattices. Their finite-size analysis provide, with high accuracy, all critical exponents which, as expected, are the same with the well-known 2D Ising model exact values. A detailed finite-size scaling analysis of our Monte Carlo data for the S=1 model on the same lattices provides very clear evidence that this model obeys, also very well, the 2D Ising model critical exponents. As a result, we find that recent Monte Carlo simulations and attempts to define effective dimensionality for the S=1 model on these lattices are misleading. Accurate estimates are obtained for the critical amplitudes of the logarithmic expansions of the specific heat for both models on the two Archimedean lattices.

We investigate the dependence of the critical Binder cumulant of the magnetization and the largest Fortuin-Kasteleyn cluster on the boundary conditions and aspect ratio of the underlying square Ising lattices. By means of the Swendsen-Wang algorithm, we generate numerical data for large system sizes and we perform a detailed finite-size scaling analysis for several values of the aspect ratio r, for both periodic and free boundary conditions. We estimate the universal probability density functions of the largest Fortuin-Kasteleyn cluster and we compare it to those of the magnetization at criticality. It is shown that these probability density functions follow similar scaling laws, and it is found that the values of the critical Binder cumulant of the largest Fortuin-Kasteleyn cluster are upper bounds to the values of the respective order-parameters cumulant, with a splitting behavior for large values of the aspect ratio. We also investigate the dependence of the amplitudes of the magnetization and the largest Fortuin-Kasteleyn cluster on the aspect ratio and boundary conditions. We find that the associated exponents, describing the aspect-ratio dependencies, are different for the magnetization and the largest Fortuin-Kasteleyn cluster, but in each case are independent of boundary conditions.

A qualitative study of the spin-lattice relaxation within a dimerized Ising chain in a magnetic field is presented. We have first determined the time dependence of the deviation of the lattice distortion parameter δΔ from the equilibrium state within framework of a technique combining the statistical equilibrium theory based on the transfer matrix method and the linear theory of irreversible thermodynamics. We have shown that the time dependence of the lattice distortion parameter is characterized by a single time constant ( τ) which diverges around the critical point in both dimerized ( Δ≠0) and uniform ( Δ=0) phase regions. When the temperature and magnetic field are fixed to certain values, the time τ depends only on exchange coupling between the spins. It is a characteristic time associated with the long wavelength fluctuations of distortion. We have also taken into account the effects of spatial fluctuations on the relaxation time using the full Landau-Ginzburg free energy functional. We have found a...

The extensive investigation of the absorptive and reactive parts of the AC order parameter susceptibility spectra of iron group dihalides, which is obtained on the basis of Onsager theory of irreversible processes, revealed the fact that the diagonal phenomenological rate coefficients and have an important impact on the nature of the order parameter relaxation process. The number of the relaxation peaks appearing in the double logarithmic plots of versus field frequency and the number of plateau regions in spectrum depends on the values of and . Only for does the relaxation evolve from a simple Debye exponential at high temperatures to a two-step process at lower temperatures in which there exist two long relaxation times characterizing the relaxation of staggered magnetization. In parallel with these characteristics of the order parameter relaxation, Cole-Cole plots ( ) are shown to consist of two arcs in the metamagnetic phase and of a semicircle in the paramagnetic phase.
