Measured and calculated volume of metal surfaces ablated by femtosecond laser

The present study is focused on determination of the ablated volume and profile of lines, by femtosecond laser dynamic scanning process. After identification of the laser-matter interaction parameters (w<inf>0</inf> — waste size, α⁻¹ — optical penetration depth, F<inf>th</inf> — fluence threshold for one pulse) with static shots, experimental and calculated line volume and profiles will be compared. An analytical model of prediction of the metal ablation volume is proposed taking into account the material properties, the laser beam characteristics and the dynamic scanning parameters.

Prediction of the shape and volume of metal surfaces ablated by femtosecond laser

Femtosecond laser ablation of stainless steel material was studied. For dynamic scanning an analytical model of metal ablation volume calculation is proposed and confronted to experimental results. According to the model, depth of the ablated surface can be predicted with respect to the laser settings and dynamic processing parameters.
