Analytical studies on holographic superconductors in Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We investigate the analytical properties of the s-wave and p-wave holographic insulator/superconductor phase transitions at zero temperature. In the probe limit, we analytically calculate the critical chemical potentials at which the insulator/superconductor phase transition occurs. Those resulting analytical values perfectly match the previous numerical values. We also study the relations between the condensation values and the chemical potentials near the critical point. We find that the critical exponent for condensation operator is 1/2 for both models. The linear relations between the charge density and the chemical potential near the critical point are also deduced in this paper, which are qualitatively consistent with the previous numerical results.

First results on low-mass WIMPs from the CDEX-1 experiment at the China Jinping underground laboratory

We report results of a search for light Dark Matter WIMPs with CDEX-1 experiment at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory, based on 53.9 kg-days of data from a p-type point-contact germanium detector enclosed by a NaI(Tl) crystal scintillator as anti-Compton detector. The event rate and spectrum above the analysis threshold of 475 eVee are consistent with the understood background model. Part of the allowed regions for WIMP-nucleus coherent elastic scattering at WIMP mass of 6-20 GeV are probed and excluded. Independent of interaction channels, this result contradicts the interpretation that the anomalous excesses of the CoGeNT experiment are induced by Dark Matter, since identical detector techniques are used in both experiments.

The first order hydrodynamics via AdS/CFT correspondence in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity

We use the variational method for the Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problem to analytically calculate some properties of holographic superconductors with Gauss-Bonnet gravity in probe limit. By studying the holographic p-wave and s-wave superconductors in (3 + 1)-dimensional boundary field theories, it is found that near the critical temperature, the critical exponent of the condensation is 1/2 which is the universal value in mean-field theory. We also find that when Gauss-Bonnet coefficients grow bigger the operators on the boundary field theory will be harder to condense. These are in good agreement with the numerical results.

Features in the dark energy equation of state and modulations in the Hubble diagram

The China Dark matter Experiment collaboration reports the first experimental limit on WIMP dark matter from 14.6 kg-day of data taken with a 994 g p-type point-contact germanium detector at the China Jinping underground Laboratory where the rock overburden is more than 2400 m. The energy threshold achieved was 400 eVee. According to the 14.6 kg-day live data, we placed the limit of N= 1.75 * 10^{-40} cm^{2} at 90% confidence level on the spin-independent cross-section at WIMP mass of 7 GeV before differentiating bulk signals from the surface backgrounds.

In the spirit of the AdS/CFT correspondence, we investigate the hydrodynamics of the dual conformal field in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity. By considering the parameters of the boosted black brane in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity as functions of boundary coordinates, and then solving the corresponding correction terms, we calculate the first order stress-energy tensor of the dual conformal field. From this first order stress-energy tensor, we also obtain the shear viscosity and entropy density. And these results are consistent with those of some previous works from the effective coupling of gravitons.

Markov chain Monte Carlo study on dark matter property related to the cosmic e ± excesses

We probe the time dependence of the dark energy equation of state (EOS) in light of three-year WMAP (WMAP3) and the combination with other tentative cosmological observations from galaxy clustering (SDSS) and Type Ia Supernova (SNIa). We mainly focus on cases where the EOS is oscillating or with local bumps. By performing a global analysis with the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method, we find the current observations, in particular, the WMAP3 + SDSS data combination, allow large oscillations of the EOS which can leave oscillating features on the (residual) Hubble diagram, and such oscillations are potentially detectable by future observations like SNAP, or even by the currently ongoing SNIa observations. Local bumps of dark energy EOS can also leave imprints on CMB, LSS and SNIa. In cases where the bumps take place at low redshifts and the effective EOS is close to -1, CMB and LSS observations cannot give stringent constraints on such possibilities. However, geometrical observations like (future) SNIa can possibly detect such features. On the other hand when the local bumps take place at higher redshifts beyond the detectability of SNIa, future precise observations like Gamma-ray bursts, CMB and LSS may possibly detect such features. In particular, we find that bumplike dark energy EOS on high redshifts might be responsible for the localized features of WMAP on ranges l similar to 20-40, which is interesting and deserves addressing further.

Phase transitions in AdS soliton spacetime through marginally stable modes

The CDEX-1 experiment conducted a search of low-mass (< 10 GeV/c2) Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) dark matter at the China Jinping Underground Laboratory using a p-type point-contact germanium detector with a fiducial mass of 915 g at a physics analysis threshold of 475 eVee. We report the hardware set-up, detector characterization, data acquisition and analysis procedures of this experiment. No excess of unidentified events are observed after subtraction of known background. Using 335.6 kg-days of data, exclusion constraints on the WIMP-nucleon spin-independent and spin-dependent couplings are derived.
