The Korea Invisible Mass Search(KIMS) experiment presents new limits on WIMP-nucleon cross section using the data from an exposure of 3409 kgd taken with low background CsI(Tl) crystals at Yangyang underground laboratory. The most stringent limit on the spin dependent interaction for pure proton case is obtained. The DAMA signal region for both spin independent and spin dependent interactions for the WIMP mass higher than 20 GeV/c^2are excluded by the single experiment with crystal scintillators.

First results on 12ΛC production at DAΦNE

Lambda-hypernuclei are produced and studied, with the FINUDA spectrometer, for the first time at an e+e- collider: DAPHNE, the Frascati phi-factory. The slow negative kaons from phi(1020) decay are stopped in thin (0.2 g/cm^2) nuclear targets, and Lambda-hypernuclei formation is detected by measuring the momentum of the outgoing pi^-. A preliminary analysis on 12Lambda-C shows an energy resolution of 1.29 MeV FWHM on the hypernuclear levels, the best obtained so far with magnetic spectrometers at hadron facilities. Capture rates for the ground state and the excited ones are reported, and compared with previous experiments.

Precision measurement of the 3d → 2p x-ray energy in kaonic 4He

Abstract We have measured the Balmer-series x-rays of kaonic 4 He atoms using novel large-area silicon drift x-ray detectors in order to study the low-energy K ¯ -nucleus strong interaction. The energy of the 3 d → 2 p transition was determined to be 6467 ± 3 ( stat ) ± 2 ( syst ) eV . The resulting strong-interaction energy-level shift is in agreement with theoretical calculations, thus eliminating a long-standing discrepancy between theory and experiment.

Photoproduction of Lambda(1405) and Sigma0(1385) on the proton at E(gamma) = 1.5-2.4-GeV

Differential cross sections for {gamma}p{yields}K{sup +}{lambda}(1405) and {gamma}p{yields}K{sup +}{sigma}{sup 0}(1385) reactions have been measured in the photon energy range from 1.5 to 2.4 GeV and the angular range of 0.8<cos({theta})<1.0 for the K{sup +} scattering angle in the center-of-mass system. This data is the first measurement of the {lambda}(1405) photoproduction cross section. The line shapes of {lambda}(1405) measured in {sigma}{sup +}{pi}{sup -} and {sigma}{sup -}{pi}{sup +} decay modes were different with each other, indicating a strong interference of the isospin 0 and 1 terms of the {sigma}{pi} scattering amplitudes. The ratios of {lambda}(1405) production to {sigma}{sup 0}(1385) production were measured in two photon energy ranges: near the production threshold (1.5<E{sub {gamma}}<2.0 GeV) and far from it (2.0<E{sub {gamma}}<2.4 GeV). The observed ratio decreased in the higher photon energy region, which may suggest different production mechanisms and internal structures for these hyperon resonances.

Abstract A novel experiment, aiming at demonstrating the feasibility of hypernuclear spectroscopy with heavy ion beams, was conducted. Using the invariant mass method, the spectroscopy of hypernuclear products of 6Li projectiles on a carbon target at 2 A GeV was performed. Signals of the Λ-hyperon and H Λ 3 and H Λ 4 hypernuclei were observed for final states of p + π − , He 3 + π − and He 4 + π − , respectively, with significance values of 6.7, 4.7 and 4.9σ. By analyzing the proper decay time from secondary vertex distribution with the unbinned maximum likelihood fitting method, their lifetime values were deduced to be 262 − 43 + 56 ± 45 ps for Λ, 183 − 32 + 42 ± 37 ps for H Λ 3 , and 140 − 33 + 48 ± 35 ps for H Λ 4 .

Mesonic and nonmesonic weak decay widths of medium-heavy {lambda} hypernuclei

We have measured the energy spectra of pions and protons emitted in the weak decay of {sup {lambda}}{sub 12}C, {sup {lambda}}{sub 28}Si, and hypernuclei produced via the ({pi}{sup +},K{sup +}) reaction. The decay widths of the {pi}{sup -} mesonic decay ({lambda}{yields}p{pi}{sup -}) and the nonmesonic decay ({lambda}N{yields}NN) were extracted. The present results demonstrate an increase of the mesonic decay width due to a distortion of the pion wave function in nuclear medium for the first time. The ratios of the neutron- to proton-induced nonmesonic decay widths, {gamma}{sub n}({lambda}n{yields}nn)/{gamma}{sub p}({lambda}p{yields}np), were evaluated by a direct comparison of the measured proton energy spectra with the calculated ones. No theoretical calculation which has been proposed so far can simultaneously account for both the nonmesonic decay widths and the {gamma}{sub n}/{gamma}{sub p} ratios in the present data.
