Allergy | 2002

Prevalence of occupational allergy to Chrysanthemum pollen in greenhouses in the Netherlands

G. C. M. Groenewoud; N. W. de Jong; Alex Burdorf; H. de Groot; R. Gerth Van Wÿk

Background: An increasing number of allergic complaints appear to have occurred among Chrysanthemum greenhouse employees. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of work‐related allergic symptoms and the prevalence of sensitization to pollen of different members of the Chrysanthemum family.

Clinical & Experimental Allergy | 2002

Prevalence of occupational allergy to bell pepper pollen in greenhouses in the Netherlands

G. C. M. Groenewoud; N. W. de Jong; A. Van Oorschot-van Nes; A. M. Vermeulen; A.W. van Toorenenbergen; Peter Mulder; Alex Burdorf; H. de Groot; R. Gerth van Wijk

Background An increasing number of allergic complaints appear to have occurred among bell pepper greenhouse employees.

Sublingual immunotherapy in youngsters: adherence in a randomized clinical trial

Esther Röder; Marjolein Y. Berger; H. de Groot; R. Gerth van Wijk

Background Adherence is essential for effective treatment. Although several trials on the efficacy of sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) in youngsters have been published, few contain data on medication intake.

Clinical and Experimental Dermatology | 2009

Serum tryptase and SCORMA (SCORing MAstocytosis) Index as disease severity parameters in childhood and adult cutaneous mastocytosis

Rogier Heide; K. van Doorn; Peter Mulder; A.W. van Toorenenbergen; Auke Beishuizen; H. de Groot; B. Tank; Arnold P. Oranje

Background.u2002 Skin lesions are the predominant clinical feature of the commonest form of mastocytosis. Mastocytosis is classified according to World Health Organization criteria. Determination of the levels of mast‐cell mediators or their metabolites reflects the mast‐cell burden. The extent of cutaneous mastocytosis can be assessed clinically using a scoring system (SCORing MAstocytosis; SCORMA Index) that we have developed.

Original article: Nasal nitric oxide: longitudinal reproducibility and the effects of a nasal allergen challenge in patients with allergic rhinitis

J. D. Boot; M. L. De Kam; M. A. Mascelli; Barry Miller; R. Gerth van Wijk; H. de Groot; Adam F. Cohen; Z. Diamant

Background:u2002 Exhaled nitric oxide (eNO) is a validated noninvasive marker of airway inflammation in asthma. In patients with allergic rhinitis (AR), increased levels of nasal nitric oxide (nNO) have also been measured. However, the applicability of nNO as a marker of upper airway inflammation awaits validation.

Clinical & Experimental Allergy | 2010

Sensitization to lupine flour : is it clinically relevant?

N. W. de Jong; M. S. van Maaren; B. J. Vlieg-Boersta; Anthony Dubois; H. de Groot; R. Gerth van Wijk

Background Lupinus angustifolius (blue lupine) is used for human and animal consumption. Currently, the lupine content in bread varies from 0% to 10% and from 0.5% to 3% in pastry. Although lupine flour is present in many products, anaphylaxis on lupine flour is rarely seen.

Allergy | 1999

Allergy to bumblebee venom. III. Immunotherapy follow‐up study (safety and efficacy) in patients with occupational bumblebee‐venom anaphylaxis

N. W. de Jong; H. de Groot; A. M. Vermeulen

Background: The objective was to investigate whether venom immunotherapy with bumblebee venom (BBV) is safe and effective.

Clinical & Experimental Allergy | 2003

Primary sensitization to sweet bell pepper pollen in greenhouse workers with occupational allergy

A. M. Vermeulen; G. C. M. Groenewoud; N. W. de Jong; H. de Groot; R. Gerth van Wijk; A.W. van Toorenenbergen

Background In a previous investigation, a high prevalence of allergy to sweet bell pepper pollen was found among exposed horticulture workers. Allergy to plant‐derived food is often the consequence of primary sensitization to common pollen allergens.

sIgE Ana o 1, 2 and 3 accurately distinguish tolerant from allergic children sensitized to cashew nuts.

J. P. M. van der Valk; R. Gerth van Wijk; Yvonne Vergouwe; Ewout W. Steyerberg; Marit Reitsma; Harry J. Wichers; H.F.J. Savelkoul; B. J. Vlieg-Boerstra; H. de Groot; Anthony Dubois; N. W. de Jong

The double‐blind, placebo‐controlled food challenge test (DBPCFC) is the gold standard in cashew nut allergy. This test is costly, time consuming and not without side effects. Analysis of IgE reactivity to cashew nut components may reduce the need for food challenge tests.

Pediatric Allergy and Immunology | 2016

No difference in health-related quality of life, after a food challenge with cashew nut in children participating in a clinical trial

J. P. M. van der Valk; R. Gerth van Wijk; B. M. J. Flokstra-de Blok; J. L. van der Velde; H. de Groot; Harry J. Wichers; Anthony Dubois; N. W. de Jong

Previous studies showed that health‐related quality of life (HRQL) significantly improved after the food challenge, with greater improvements in HRQL after a negative outcome than after a positive outcome. It is currently unknown whether this also occurs in patients undergoing DBPCFCs with cashew nut in the context of a clinical trial.
