Emission and absorption polarization spectra as well as emission lifetimes between room temperature and 5 °K have been measured of [Cr urea6]X3 single crystals, where X stands for ClO4−, J−, NO3−, Br−, Cl−, F−, and X3 for JSO43−. The strong temperature dependence of the fluorescence/phosphorescence-ratios, and of the emission lifetimes is discussed. The differences between the spectra as well as the emission lifetimes of the various salts can be attributed to an anion dependent trigonal perturbation.

Cs₂[Pd(CN)₄]•H₂O and Cs₂[Ni(CN)₄]•H₂O were found to be isotypic with the known hexagonal Pt compound which shows an unusual helical chain of six [Pt(CN)₄]²⁻ groups in the unit cell, space group P6₁ or P6₅. The crystal data are a = 9.559(2) and c = 19.308(4) A. D(m) = 2.87(4), D(x) = 2.912 Mg m⁻³ for the Ni compound, and a = 9.704(2), c = 19.388(4) A, D(m) = 3.12(4), D(x) = 3.115 Mg m⁻³ for the Pd compound. X-ray powder data are given.

Abstract In the hexagonal Cs2[Pt(CN)4]·H2O compound the [Pt(CN)4]2− complex ions are arranged forming a helix. Under UV excitation the crystals strongly emit light of different polarization. It is possible to correlate the emission peak energies to the Pt-Pt distance of adjacent complexes in the helix and to determine the helix radius just from these data and the lattice constant c.
