Radiation dose and labeling of hippuran.

Renal morphology and renal function were studied with iodine-123-hippurate in 98 patients with various renal diseases. Sequential scintigraphy with iodine-123-hippurate demonstrates much better renal blood flow, morphology and function than iodine-131-hippurate. A method of labeling hippurate in a short time (2 h) with high efficiency (95--100%) is described. Radiation exposure to various organs was calculated and significant differences in radiation exposure to the thyroid are demonstrated.

Radiotherapy of Cerebral Metastases. CT-Findings and Effects of Radiotherapy

Intracerebral metastases can be demonstrated with great accuracy with modern CT apparatus after administration of contrast medium (CM). This is true for most areas of the skull with the exception of the base of the skull and the posterior cranial fossa. In these areas artefacts can make demonstration more difficult. The size of metastases and the perifocal edema also play a decisive part in the diagnosis of cerebral metastases (12). CM concentration or conclusions from the degree of CM concentration in relation to the original histology has been the subject of several publications (2, 8, 12, 13). Later papers on CM kinetics show that the time of examination after administration of CM as well as the quantity of CM administered play a decisive part in determining the density of metastases (6, 9, 10, 15, 18).

Angiography and Scintigraphy of the Kidney

The kidneys maintain the water and electrolytes balances of the body and eliminate numerous metabolic products. These tasks are accomplished by the adaption to the volume, the concentration and the composition of the urine. There are 3 different mechanisms serving these purposes the glomerular filtration, the tubular reabsorption and the tubular secretion.
