The reaction of partially condensed silasesquioxanes of the type [R17Si7O9(OH)2(OR2)] (R1 = c-C5H9, c-C6H11; R2 = H, SiMe3) with either [Pt(dppe)(CO3)] or [Pt(dppe)Cl2]/Ag2O leads to the formation of [R17Si7O9(OR2)O2Pt(dppe)], crystallographically characterised for R1 = c-C5H9; R2 = SiMe3, providing unprecedented routes to late transition metal silasesquioxane complexes.

In the title compound, [Cu(NO 3 ) 2 (C 6 H 8 N 2 ) 2 ], the copper(II) ion, which lies on a centre of symmetry, is coordinated by four N atoms of two 2-aminomethylpyridine ligands and two O atoms of two nitrate ions in an elongated octahedral geometry.

The title compound, C 17 H 21 NO, crystallizes with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. The conformation of the molecules is essentially the same. All saturated rings adopt a chair conformation, which is a prerequisite for efficient charge transfer.

The title compound, [Co(NO3)2(C11H7NS)2], has twofold axial symmetry. The central cobalt ion is coordinated by four O atoms of two nitrate anions and two N atoms of two 2-[2-(2-thienyl)ethynyl]pyridine ligands in a distorted octahedral geometry. The non-coordinating thiophene moiety is disordered over two overlapping orientations. Short bifurcated C—H⋯O interactions link the molecules into an infinite chain parallel to the c axis.

The title compound, [Rh(C 6 H 5 O)(C 15 H 23 N 3 )], is the first Rh 1 -phenoxide compound with a tridentate nitrogen ligand to be crystallographically characterized. The Rh 1 atom shows an essentially undistorted square-planar conformation, unlike the corresponding chlorine compound, which displays significant non-planarity. The flexibility observed by NMR in solution is partly supported by the conformation found in the crystalline state.

A novel ruthenium–1,8-naphthyridine complex is synthesized, characterized by X-ray analysis, and proven to be an active and stable catalyst in the oxidation of several alcoholic substrates and in the epoxidation of trans- and cis-stilbene and cyclooctene.
