By taking advantage of the high efficiency of the Coulomb dissociation method, we studied the stellar 22Mg(p, γ)23Al reaction. The radiative width Γγ of the first excited state in 23Al was determined by measuring the intermediate-energy 23Al → 22Mg + p breakup process with a lead target.

The Coulomb dissociation of the proton-rich nuclei {sup 27}P was studied experimentally using {sup 27}P beams at 57 MeV/nucleon with a lead target. The radiative widths of the low-lying excited state in {sup 27}P were deduced. The resonant capture reaction rate of stellar {sup 26}Si(p,{gamma}){sup 27}P through these states was estimated using the measured radiative widths. The astrophysical implications obtained from the extracted reaction rate will be discussed.

The Coulomb breakup technique was applied to determine the E1 strength of excited levels in 12N and 13O, which dominate the low-energy cross sections of the 11C(p,γ)12N and 12N(p,γ)13O reactions, respectively. These reactions are important in the hot pp mode nuclear burning in hydrogen-rich massive objects [1]. Under a high-temperature and high-density condition, these capture reactions become faster than the β + decay of 11C and 12N. However, these 11C(p,γ)12N and 12N(p,γ)13O reactions are difficult to study experimentally because the life times of 11C and 12N are too short to prepare them as targets.
