We report a case with double superior gemellus and double piriformis mm. associated with the sciatic n. dividing high and passing between the two piriformis mm. in the same lower extremity. This abnormality has not previously been described in the literature. As many musculoskeletal structures may be involved in sciatica, the supernumerary superior gemelli and piriformis mm. may exert pressure on the sciatic n. and this should be taken into account by clinicians.

In this study, the course of the lateral femoral cutaneous n. was examined bilaterally in 22 cadavers. Seven of these 44 lateral femoral cutaneous nn. showed variations in their course, especially in their number of branches under the inguinal ligament. During operations where the lateral femoral cutaneous n. may be damaged or in its decompression surgery, the nerve is to be found under the inguinal ligament. 1.52 ± 0.84 cm medial to the anterior superior iliac spine. This nerve can be found passing through the inguinal ligament in as many as four branches.

Abstract: A case of complex anomalies (variations) of the veins of the retroperitoneum in a 57 year old male cadaver is presented. The anomaly involved a double inferior vena cava, with the left suprarenal v. draining into the left vena cava and the right testicular v. drained into the right renal v., There was also no left common iliac v., with the left external iliac v. draining into the left vena cava and the left internal iliac v. into the right common iliac v.. Although duplication of the inferior vena cava has previously been reported the present case is interesting because of the complexity of the associated anomalies.

Abstract. The distal attachments of the extensor hallucis longus (EHL) tendons in 47 amputated legs and in eight cadavers were examined. The EHL had two tendons in 34 of the amputated legs and bilaterally in five cadavers. The lateral tendon was inserted to the middle of the dorsal aspect of the base of the distal phalanx of the hallux and the medial tendon to the medial side of the insertion of the lateral tendon. The length and thickness of these two tendons were measured and compared in order to obtain data for using these tendons in tendon repair and hallux varus corrections by autogenous tendon transfer surgery. Additionally, on the right foot of one of the cadavers, it was observed that the extensor hallucis brevis tendon united with the lateral tendon of the EHL. We recommend that foot-ankle surgeons be aware of the various accessory EHL tendons and their potential use in problematic cases.

Five cases are described where the first web space of the hand received arteries only from the superficial palmar arch. None of these branches was large enough to deserve the name “princeps pollicis artery”. These variations must be taken into account during surgical dissections of the hand.

A 17-month-old female patient was operated on for ventricular septal defect and pulmonary stenosis. During the operation several cardiac anomalies were observed these were dextrocardia, ventricular septal defect, persistent left superior vena cava, drainage of the great cardiac vein into the left internal thoracic vein and a pericardial pouch. These anomalies have not previously been reported together.
