Context: The use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is common among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients in Indonesia and may potentially affect adherence to prescribed diabetes medication, leading to uncontrolled blood sugar levels and complications. Aims: The objectives of this study were to analyze the association of CAM use with adherence to prescribed diabetes medication and to identify predictors of low adherence to prescribed diabetes medication. Settings and Design: A cross-sectional survey was done in a secondary health care facility in Bandung city, Indonesia. Data were collected between February and April 2014 from 114 respondents selected through consecutive sampling. Statistical Analysis Used: Chi-square test and ordinal logistic regression were used for statistical analysis. Results: The result showed that 64.9% of the respondents used CAM with herbal products (54.4%), ceragem (16.7%), and massage (12.3%) as the most widely used types. CAM use was found to significantly decrease adherence to prescribed diabetes medication (P < 0.05). The multivariate analysis suggested that the predictors of low adherence were CAM used [adjusted odds ratio (ORadj) 6.16; 2.44-15.52], gender (ORadj2.57; 1.05-6.31), and age (ORadj4.25; 1.53-11.31). Conclusions: CAM use decreased adherence to prescribed medication in T2DM patients. Gender and age were also associated with adherence. Instead of ignoring CAM use among patients, health professionals should have increased awareness and better training about CAM so that they can provide patients with relevant information and assist them in their decision-making regarding CAM use.

Background: Obesity is an emerging epidemical issue. The percentage of individuals with high BMI consistently escalates in every year. Non-communicable disease such as hypertension, coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke, are influenced by risk factors. One of the important risk factors is the increasing BMI and high concentration of lipid profile. The aim of this study is to discover the causal inference between BMI and concentration of lipid profile. Method: Cross-sectional design was conducted in this study. Secondary data was collected from previous study entitled “Primary and Secondary Prevention in Jatinangor society”. Sample subjects consisted of 99 individuals. Obtained data was analyzed using Spearmans Rank correlation test. Result: Characteristic of subjects from the obtained data showed that as much of 55% of the subjects were having overly high BMI (overweight and obese). Mean of BMI was 26.44 kg/m2 and lipid profile (Total cholesterol: 194.60 mg/dL; HDL-C: 42.52 mg/dL; LDL-C: 126.61 mg/dL) in female were higher compared to male (Total cholesterol: 188.6 mg/dL; HDL-C: 35.7 mg/dL; LDL-C: 123.4 mg/dL) except for male TG was higher(147 mg/dL) rather than female (132.1 mg/dL). Significant correlation was found between BMI and total cholesterol (rs = 0.244 p = 0.015), BMI and HDL-C (rs = −0.222 p = 0.027), BMI and LDL-C (rs = 0.223 p = 0.026), BMI and TG (rs = 0.242 p = 0.016). Conclusion: There was significant correlation between BMI and lipid profile.

Abstract. Dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) incidence rate in Aceh Province for the past three years 2012-2014 were fluctuated from 51‰, 29 ‰ and 45 ‰. The most widely used larvacide to control larvae Ae. aegypti is temefos, in Indonesia 1% temefos (abate 1SG) started used in 1976, and since 1980 has been used for the eradication program of Ae. aegypti larvae. The intensive use of temefos will be not a problem until population were dominated by resistant individuals. The purpose of this study was to determine the status of susceptibility of Ae. aegypti larvae against temefos in three dengue fever endemic areas in Aceh. We conducted an observational study to examine the susceptibility of Ae. aegypti population in 3 districts of Aceh Province: Banda Aceh, Lhokseumawe and Aceh Besar. Entomological survey and larval collection was assigned. Larvae then reared in laboratory until third generation. Third and early fourth instars stage of Ae. aegypti larvae were used as test samples. Susceptibility test was undergo based on World Health Organization guidelines. Results shows that larva Ae. aegypti from Banda Aceh (100%) and Lhokseumawe (99%) districts was still susceptible, while Aceh Besar (97%) indicates tolerance to temefos 0,02%. In conclusion, temefos still effective to be used as larvicide for vector control in those three endemic of dengue fever in Aceh Province. The priority vector control program that can be suggested is put mosquito breeding place eradication called PSN as a proactive movement in community. Keywords : Aedes aegypti, temefos, susceptibility, insecticide, Aceh Abstrak. Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) reemerged as a significant public health problem, which reflects the difficulty in sustaining DHF control program. Community-based strategy to control Aedes aegypti breeding sites needs to be understood. The objective of this study is to understand contributed factors to DHF based on characteristics, the availability of basic sanitation, knowledge, perception, and attitude towards DHF prevention program. Background: 24 – hour Sodium urine is the gold standard for estimating daily sodium intake. Although it is the gold standard, it is expensive and difficult to obtain a good sample. Alternatively, we can use food frequency questionnaire, which is relatively cheap and easy to obtain. The purpose of this study is to know the correlation between sodium scoring of a food frequency questionnaire and predictive 24-hour sodium urine. Methods: Thiscross – sectional correlative study was taken from29 people, aged 18–59 years old in Jatinangor. The food list of the questionnaire used in this study was modified based on a qualitative study in Jatinangor. The sodium content of the food was calculated by computer software based on the general recipe of 20people in Jatinangor, which was obtained by the same qualitative study. Afternoon spot urine sample was used as the replacement of 24 – hour urine sample, then the sodium level of the spot urine was converted to 24 – hour sodium urine by Tanaka formula. The correlation was analyzed by using computer software. Results: The correlation between food frequency questionnaire scoring and predictive 24-hour sodium that is analyzed with pearson method was insignificant (r = −0.169, p = 0.381) Conclusions: The correlation is insignificant, this result may arise due to some confounders and limitation of the study.
