The title compound, [CrF3(C10H8N2)(H2O)]·2H2O, was prepared by the reaction of CrF3 and 2,2′-bipyridine under hydrous conditions. The metal centre is coordinated in a distorted octahedral mode by two N atoms from the organic ligand, three F atoms and one O atom of a water molecule. . The crystal packing is stabilized by O—H⋯O and O—H⋯F hydrogen-bonding contacts, which form a one-dimensional belt extending parallel to (100).

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Ni(C12H8N2)3][Cr2O7]·4H2O, contains one cation, one anion and four water molecules, three of which are disordered over two sites with equal occupancies. In the cation, the metal centre is coordinated by six N atoms from three 1,10-phenanthroline ligands in a distorted octahedral geometry. The [Cr2O7]2− anion exhibits a staggered conformation. The crystal packing is stabilized by intermolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π–π interactions, evidenced by short distances of 3.531 (5) Å between the centroids of aromatic rings.

The title compound, C19H17N3O, was prepared by the 1,4-addition reaction of 1,3-di-2-pyridylprop-2-en-1-one with aniline, and includes one chiral C atom of the methine group with an R configuration. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular N—H⋯N and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The crystal structure also exhibits weak intermolecular C—H⋯π interactions between a pyridyl H atom and the phenyl ring of adjacent molecules.

In the title compound, [Mg(C12H8N2)2(H2O)2][Cr2O7]·2C12H8N2, the cation and anion are situated on a twofold rotation axis. The MgII ion is coordinated by four N atoms from two 1,10-phenanthroline ligands and two O atoms from coordinated water molecules in a distorted octahedral geometry. Intermolecular O—H⋯N and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π–π interactions between the aromatic rings [shortest centroid–centroid separation = 3.527 (2) Å] link the cations, anions and 1,10-phenanthroline solvent molecules into a hydrogen-bonded cluster.

In the title compound, [Cd2Cr2O8(C12H8N2)4]·2H2O, which was obtained by hydrothermal reaction of CdCO3 and phenanthroline with K2CrO4 at 393 K, two distorted Cd(N4O2) octahedra are linked through μ2-bridging chromate anions, forming a centrosymmetric tetranuclear eight-membered ring complex. The water molecules link the chromate O atoms via intermolecular O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. These aggregates pack to a three-dimensional network through weak intermolecular C—H⋯O and C—H⋯π hydrogen-bonding contacts.
