Metastatic retinoblastoma of the mandible: Report of a case

Abstract The case of a 2 1 2 - year-old Cuban girl with bilateral retinoblastoma discovered at the age of 3 months has been presented. The first known metastasis was to the left mandible. This occurred 27 months after the initial diagnosis was established. Other metastatic foci were subsequently discovered.

Dental Care for the Aging Patient

Dentists and their medical colleagues must approach old patients as they would younger ones. They should not accept loss of teeth as a physiologic process associated with aging but should strive to prevent dental caries and periodontal diseases, the major causes of loss of teeth.Communities should provide equipment through hospitals or clinics for dental care of home bound patients. Even the edentulous patient should have regular oral examinations to prevent some of the deaths caused by oral cancer.

ORAL DISEASES AND THE AGING PATIENT

Unfortunately, practically all changes observed in the oral regions of older persons have been interpreted at one time or another as physiologic changes associated with aging. This has led to a caricature of the aged individual as toothless, sharp-chinned and sunken-cheeked, with an overly prominent nose (Fig. 1). A check of the physiognomies of some of our older actresses and personal acquaintances belies this concept of older citizens.
