Hamilton Luiz Munari Vogel; Mauro Valdir Schumacher; Lindolfo Storck; Rudi Witschoreck

This study aimed to evaluate the effect N, P and K on the growth of young (19 month-old) Pinus taeda . The experiment took place near Cambara do Sul county, with UTM coordinates of 562125 E and 6777386 N. The statistical methodology was the confounding technique, for three factors, with four levels, totalizing 64 treatments, allocated in four blocks. The following variables were measured: total height, crown height, steam diameter and crown diameter. The results pointed out a significant linear quadratic effect for P, indicating that P fertilization is essential on the initial development of Pinus taeda plants, with a maximum cylindric volume achieved at 64 and 87 kg ha -1 doses of P 2 O 5 and K 2 O respectively.

The present study was carried out in stand of Black wattle 8 years old, in the southeastern mountain range, in Minas do Leao - RS County. The objective of this work was to quantify the total biomass of the stand and its distribution in each component of the tree biomass. After evaluation of dendrometric characteristics, 21 trees were selected and cut for estimation of biomass in the components: leaves, live and dead branches, bark wood, stem wood and roots. To estimate the different components of the biomass, the coefficients of the equation ln y = b0 + b1 * ln d were determinated. At eight years old, a Black wattle can concentrate more than 60% of its biomass in the wood. The biomass below ground under these conditions can reach approximately 12% of total biomass.

The growth of environmental impacts in the cities comes from the increase in population and the constant expansion of urban areas. These conflicts coupled with the lack of infrastructure contribute to the deterioration of environmental quality and life of the urban population and consequently to the physical, chemical and biological changes that compromise ecosystems and alter the landscape in these centers. The theme of this study relates to the perception and satisfaction of urban environmental quality has, as social actors, residents of a sample of the population of five districts in Sao Gabriel, RS. Through interviews addressed issues such as solid waste, noise, visual, air, soil, deforestation, the presence of sewage, illegal occupation, floods, urban sanitation and municipal environmental policies. The result of the survey showed satisfaction with some environmental aspects, but dissatisfaction with public policy indifferent to the quality of life of citizens.
