Solvothermal Preparation, Crystal Structure, and Photoluminescence of a Cadmium Compound With a Two-Dimensional Supramolecular Layer

By virtue of a solvothermal reaction, a new cadmium-bipyridinium derivative (N,N′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium)3(CdCl3-HCl-CdCl3)(CdBr4)2 (1) with the N,N′-dimethyl-4,4′-bipyridinium cation obtained in situ, was synthesized and characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction method. The title compound is characteristic of an isolated structure. The anions and cations in 1 are connected through hydrogen-bonding interactions to give a two-dimensional (2-D) supramolecular layer. The fluorescence result discovers a wide emission band in the green region.

Synthesis, Crystal Structure, Properties, and Theoretical Study of CdI2(phen)2 (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline)

A cadmium compound CdI2(phen)2, (1) (phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), was been synthesized via a hydrothermal reaction and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The cadmium ion is coordinated by two terminal iodine ions and four nitrogen atoms from two coordinating phen molecules, constructing a distorted octahedron. Compound 1 features an isolated structure. Photoluminescent study shows that compound 1 exhibits a strong and broad emission in the blue region. Theoretical investigation reveals that the emission can be attributed to ligand to ligand charge transfer.

Synthesis and characterization of a novel quaternary metal chalcogenide-Hg3ZnSe3Br2

A novel quaternary metal chalcogenide Hg3ZnSe3Br2 (1) was prepared via a solid-state reaction method and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 1 crystallizes in the space group P-3 of the hexagonal system with two formula units in a cell: a = 7.383(7) Å, c = 10.924(9) Å, V = 515.6(8) Å3, FW = 1063.84, Dc = 6.852 g/cm3, S = 0.713, μ(MoKα) = 65.083 mm−1, F(000) = 884, R = 0.1377 and wR = 0.2720. Compound 1 is characterized by a 2-D layered motif, which is constructed from the interconnected 12-membered Hg6Br6 rings with a chair-like conformation.

In Situ Preparation, Crystal Structure and Fluorescence of [(CH3)2–4,4′-H2bipy][FeCl4]2 (Bipy = Bipyridine)

A new viologen(4,4′-bipyridinium)-based compound [(CH3)2–4, 4′-H2bipy][FeCl4]2 (1) (bipy = bipyridine), in which the (CH3)2–4,4′-H2bipy (MQ 2+ ) was generated in situ, has been synthesized via a solvothermal reaction and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure analysis revealed that compound 1 is characteristic of an isolated structure, based on MQ 2+ moieties and Fe3+ ions terminally coordinated by four chlorine ions. The MQ 2+ moieties and (FeCl4)− anions connect together via hydrogen bonds to yield a 3-D supramolecular framework. Fluorescent study shows that compound 1 displays strong and broad emission bands.

Hydrothermal Synthesis, Crystal Structure and Photoluminescence of (HgCl2(C6NO2H5))nn(HgCl2)n(C6NO2H5)

The first example of isonicotinic acid compounds with infinite mercury halide chains, [HgCl2(C6NO2H5)]nn[HgCl2]n(C6NO2H5) (1), was synthesized through hydrothermal reactions and structurally characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Compound 1 features a one-dimensional (1-D) motif, based on infinite 1-D [HgCl2(C6NO2H5)]n chains, neutral HgCl2 moieties and isolated isonicotinic acid molecules. The [HgCl2(C6NO2H5)]n chains, HgCl2 moieties and isonicotinic acid molecules are interlinked by hydrogen bonds and π-π interactions to give a two-dimensional supramolecular layer. Photoluminescent investigation reveals that the title compound exhibits a strong emission in blue region. The emission band is identified as the π -π* transitions of the isonicotinic acid moieties.
