ABSTRACT:Heating pipes burst was occurred in the apartment complex that was applied floor radiant heating system. There were two opinions for the cause of the bursted heating pipes that was the flaw during construction and defects in the product and also there were conflicting among them. Officials analyzed it in order to investigate the cause of the rupture. Tensile test results showed different tensile strength between the lower part of heating pipe and the upper part of heating pipes. The lower tensile strength is maintained while the top was not secured. The reason why rupture heating pipes is that flow velocity isn’t secured and then the air get stagnant. Stagnant air makes hardening. It is caused rupturing. The proper flow rate was confirmed 0.166 m/sec after experiment. It isn’t make stagnant air inside heating pipes. Keywords:Ondol(온돌), Floor radiant heating(바닥복사난방), Thermostat(온도조절기), Tensile strength(인장강도) †Corresponding author Tel.: +82-41-539-9430; fax: +82-41-539-9439 E-mail address: [email protected]

The synthesis of new materials containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and the microstructure of alumina particles were investigated and characterized. The MWCNTs and alumina particles were ground under both the dry and wet conditions with various rotation speeds (200–400 r/min) in planetary ball milling machine, and their combination characteristics were described. The experimental results were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and particle sizing analysis (PSA). SEM result revealed that the combination of MWCNTs — Alumina particles mixed quite well under both the dry and wet grinding with rotation speed of 400 r/min. XRD characterization indicated the better result could get in ground samples at a rotation speed of 400 r/min. PSA result showed the particle size decreased with increase the grinding speeds. From the overall results, we observed that the grinding method can be used to synthesize new material with high efficiency.

In this paper presented pressure drop characteristics in one channel of plate heat exchanger by experimental method. Plate Heat Exchanger (PHE) applied in vacuum evaporator for product fresh water. PHE have become popular in chemical, power, food and refrigeration industries due to the efficient heat transfer performance, extremely compact design and flexibility of extend or modify to suit changed duty. The heat transfer part contains corrugated plates with 60 degree of chevron angle. The experiments carried out pressure profile according to mass flow rate at 15 measure points for investigate flow characteristics of PHE channel flow which highly turbulent even with low Reynolds number. In addition, numerical simulation was compared with experimental results and present more visible distribution of flow behavior in the test section.

Water hammering occurs due to the surge effect that comes from operating the pump, sudden stop during the operating due to a blackout and rapid open and close of the valve. By the water hammering of the pipeline and the pump, the valve are damaged. In this paper, transient analysis is conducted by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics). The purpose of this paper is to provide the research data about the change of the pressure and flow in the pipe that caused by the water hammering.

This paper examines the characteristics of butt welding joint shrinkage for shipbuilding and marine structures main plate. The shrinkage strain of butt welding joint which is caused by the process of heat input and cooling, results in the difference between dimensions of the actual parent metal and the dimensions of design. This, in turn, leads to poor quality in the production of ship blocks and reworking through period of correction brings about impediment on improvement of productivity. Through experiments on butt welding joint`s shrinkage strain on large structures main plate, the deformation of welding residual stress in the form of I, Y, V was obtained. In addition, the results of experiments indicate that there is limited range of shrinkage in the range of 1 ~ 2 mm in 11t ~ 21.5t thickness and the effect of heat transfer of weld appears to be limited within 1000mm based on one side of seam line so there was limited impact of weight of parent metal on the shrinkage. Finally, it has been learned that Shrinkage margin needs to be applied differently based on groove phenomenon in the design phase in order to minimize shrinkage.

Seawater amounts to 70% of the earth and represents a quite unlimited resource for the production of fresh water by desalination processes and for the extraction of dissolved salts present in it. Recently, the falling film evaporation has increased in interest as an efficient method for seawater desalination system. In the desalination system, the flow characteristics of the falling film is very important issue to make highly efficient system. So, this study is taken to investigate numerically the falling film thickness on the inlet Renold Number ranges are 400 to 700. Numerical simulations are performed using FLUENT6.3.26, a commercial CFD code.
