Aluminium hydride nanoparticles nested in the porous zeolitic imidazolate framework-8

Ewa Banach; Hans Arie Stil; Hans Geerlings

Aluminium hydride particles were loaded for the first time in a ZIF-8 structure by the solution infiltration method using dimethylethylamine alane [AlH3:NMe2Et] as a precursor. The infiltrated aluminium hydride is present within ZIF-8 pores preserving the zeolitic structure, as shown by various advanced analytical techniques.

Dynamic Release–Immobilization of a Homogeneous Rhodium Hydroformylation Catalyst by a Polyoxometalate Metal–Organic Framework Composite

Thermal treatment of phosphotungstic acid (PTA)‐MIL‐101(Cr) composites in the presence of hydroformylation catalyst RhH(CO)(PPh3)3 leads to immobilization of the homogeneous Rh complex within the metal–organic framework (MOF) scaffold by coordination of PTA‐Rh. The Rh complex‐containing MOFs are tested in the hydroformylation of 1‐octene in which PTA competes with CO during ligand association. In the presence of the carbonyl ligand, the Rh complex is released from the MOF and behaves as a homogeneous catalyst. Therefore, the product spectra and selectivities of the Rh complex‐containing MOFs are similar to those of RhH(CO)(PPh3)3. Upon CO evacuation, Rh recoordinates to PTA, allowing for easy recycling of this new pseudo‐heterogeneous catalyst.

Structure of Ti in TiCl3 Doped NaAlH4

Cornelis P. Baldé; Hans Arie Stil; A.M.J. van der Eerden; K.P. de Jong; J.H. Bitter

To elucidate the structure of Ti in Ti‐doped sodium alanate used for hydrogen storage, XAFS studies were performed. In freshly prepared samples the majority of the Ti is present in interstitial positions in the NaAlH4. By increasing the desorption temperature, thus increasing the extent of hydrogen desorption, Ti migrates into the Al, finally forming a less active TiAl3 alloy.
