Ureteral injuries during vascular surgery.

Hans E. Schapira; Ronald Li; Michael E. Gribetz; Mendley A. Wulfsohn; Herbert Brendler

The rapid increase in the number of vascular surgical procedures done has led to a new class of iatrogenic ureteral injuries. Vena caval ligation, bilateral lumbar sympathectomy, bypass procedures and abdominal aortic aneurysmectomy produce the majority of these injuries. Established principles useful in the repair of iatrogenic injuries following a gynecologic or colonic operation often are inapplicable.

Carcinoma of prostate metastatic to penis

Ziyad H. Mugharbil; Craig Childs; Myron Tannenbaum; Hans E. Schapira

A case report of prostatic carcinoma metastasizing to the penis is presented. Review of the literature revealed only 54 cases reported to date. With survival rates ranging from two to six months, the prognosis is gloomy. The most commonly used method of treatment was local wide excision of the lesion.

Prostatic needle biopsy in patients after abdominoperineal resection

Hans E. Schapira

Abstract Following abdominoperineal resection, the prostate cannot be palpated rectally. A prostatic needle biopsy can be performed by relying on the IVU and sonogram as guides to localize the prostate and the area undergoing biopsy.

Urology | 1983

Metastatic carcinoma of prostate and bladder causing intestinal obstruction

Arnold Bruce Aigen; Hans E. Schapira

Abstract Three well-documented cases of lower genitourinary neoplasms spreading preferentially to the gastrointestinal tract causing obstruction are discussed. This uncommon route of metastatic dissemination is reviewed, and hypotheses and explanations are offered.
