Thexyldimethylsilyl chloride, an easily accessible reagent for the protection of alcohols

Abstract The silylation of alcohols, amines, amides, mercaptans and acids with the readily available thexyldimethylsilyl chloride (TDS-Cl) is described. The stabilities of the silyl ethers are examined using different cleavage conditions and compared in part with the stabilities of the corresponding tert-butyldimethylsilyl derivatives.

Hydrosilylation of tetrasubstituted olefins

Abstract Tetrasubstituted olefins are hydrosilylated under very mild conditions with dimethyl- or butylmethylchlorosilane and aluminium chloride as catalyst. Application of this procedure to 2,3-dimethyl-2-butene yields thexyldimethylsilyl chloride, a new silicon based protective group reagent.

Note on a preparation of β, γ-unsaturated carboxylic acid derivatives using the amide acetalClaisenrearrangement 3-(Trimethylsilyl)allyl alcohols smoothly undergo the amide acetal Claisen rearrangement furnishing allyl silanes. Subsequent protolysis with HF at −20° provides a convenient, stereoselective method for the preparation of β, γ-unsaturated carboxylic acid derivatives. Three model examples illustrate the procedure.
