With a microwave pulse chirped from 19 to 13 GHz population in the Li n=70 states is transferred to the n=79 states through a phase locking of the electrons motion to the microwave field.

We have demonstrated that superradiance and superfluorescence states can be created in a selective manner in n=20 Rydberg states of Na atoms using a sub-ps, uni-polar half-cycle field pulse.
