Mössbauer spectroscopic studies of ferrocene adsorbed on silica gel

Haruo Sato

Mössbauer spectra of ferrocene adsorbed on silica gel were measured in order to study the state of adsorption. Ferrocene adsorbed on silica gel tended to oxidize in air and form ferricenium ion. It is assumed that the oxidation of adsorbed ferrocene was caused by surface hydroxyls on the silica gel and O2 in air. It was observed that ferrocene adsorbed weakly at 293 K, although the ferricenium ion adsorbed strongly at 293 K. Thus the adsorption states of ferrocene depend on the experimental condition.

Abstract The relaxation rate of muonium in pure water has been found to be smaller than 0.05 × 10 6 s −1 . With the aid of pulsed muong. μSR and MuSR measurements have been carried out over a longer time range than ever achieved. The results indicate a stability of thermal muonium in water from 3 to 29°C.

Mössbauer spectroscopic study of ferrocene derivatives in the adsorption and liquid-crystalline states

Haruo Sato; I. Kusudo; M. Sugiyama; T. Hanasaki; N. Nakamura

Mössbauer spectra of ferrocene derivatives in the solid, adsorption and liquidcrystalline states were measured at temperatures ranging from 78 to 423 K. The peak intensities of the Mössbauer spectra of ferrocene derivatives adsorbed on silica gel decreased markedly with an increase in temperature. The Mössbauer absorption of ω [4-(4-methoxyphenoxycarbonyl)-phenoxycarbonyl]alkyl 4-ferrocenylbenzoate at 295 K during the cooling process was observed in what was assumed to be the liquid-crystalline state.

A new detection system with a microchannel plate for energy-selected conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy

Haruo Sato; Masamitsu Mitsuhashi

A new measuring system using a microchannel plate and a retarding field analyzer has been introduced for use in energy-analyzed conversion electron Mössbauer spectroscopy. Mössbauer spectra of the thin surface layer of57Fe-enriched 310 stainless steel foil were obtained by detecting scattered electrons with an energy of more than 7.0 keV. It was found that the geometries of the source, sample and the MCP were important; also, good shielding against γ-rays and X-rays was necessary in order to improve the S/N ratio.

MOLECULAR ORBITAL CALCULATION OF MOSSBAUER PARAMETERS FOR STANNANE DERIVATIVES AND THEIR PHOTOPRODUCTS IN LOW TEMPERATURE MATRICES

Yasuhiro Yamada; Kazuya Onaka; Toshihiro Kumagawa; C. Obayashi; Yasushi T. Yamada; Haruo Sato; Takeshi Tominaga

Mössbauer parameters of tin compounds isolated in low temperature matrices were related to electronic properties at the tin nuclei which had been obtained by molecular orbital calculations. Stannane and its derivatives as well as tin halide compounds in low temperature matrices show good correlation between observed isomer shifts δ and calculated electron density ρ(0), and also between observed quadrupole splittings Δ EQ and calculated electric field gradients EFG. Using correlation for the observed Mössbauer parameters and calculated electronic properties of known compounds, assignment of novel photoproduct species were confirmed and their structures determined on the basis of molecular orbital calculations.
