The preeminence of /sup 99m/Tc in diagnostic nuclear medicine has led to considerable interest in developing the nascent inorganic chemistry of technetium. To this end research groups have recently prepared and characterized the complexes TcOCl/sub 4//sup -4/ and TcHBPz/sub 3/Cl/sub 2/O/sup 5/ (HBPz/sub 3//sup -/ = hydrotris(1-pyrazolyl)borate anion) utilizing the long-lived /sup 99/Tc isotope. This work has been extended to include the bromo analogues TcOBr/sub 4//sup -/ and TcHBPz/sub 3/Br/sub 2/O. It appears that TcOX/sub 4/- anions are probable intermediates in the preparation of the poly(1-pyrazolyl)borate complexes. Thus attention has been focused on these oxotetrahalotechnetate(V) anions as valuable synthetic starting materials for the development of technetium radiopharmaceuticals.
