Determination of the Strength of L-Type Corner Joints Obtained from Wood-Based Board Materials Using Different Joining Techniques

Abstract Flat pack (ready-to-assemble, knockdown) furniture has become the most extensive furniture model produced with the development of wood-based board materials technology. It is especially preferred in the building industry as a model suitable for mass production. In this study, the resistances of dowels and screws, which are used in a widespread manner as joining material at the corners of ready-to-assemble furniture, were investigated against tensile and compression resistances in the diagonal direction. Chipboard (CB), medium-density fiberboard, and gaboon mahogany plywood (GMP), 14, 16, and 18 mm thick, were used in this study. Dowel + screw, screw, screw + polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) adhesive, and screw + polyurethane (PUR) adhesive joining were implemented for the L-type corner models obtained from wood-based board materials. Determination of the Effects of the Tensile Direction and Glue Type on Dowel Holding Strength on Different Wood Materials

Bu calismada, Dogu kayini (Fagus orientalis Lipsky.), Saricam (Pinus sylvestris L.), Sapsiz mese (Quercus petraea Liebl), Anadolu kestanesi (Castanea sativa Mill) ve Adi ceviz (Juglans regia L.) malzemelerinden elde edilen ahsap malzemenin teget kesit yuzeyden radyal, enine kesit yuzeyden boyuna yondeki kavela cekme direncleri arastirilmistir. Bu deneylerde 5 agac turu, 2 farkli kavela cekme yonu, 2 tutkal turu ve her ornekten 10 adet olacak sekilde toplam 200 adet deney numunesi hazirlanmis ve statik yuk altinda dogrusal cekme deneyine tabi tutulmustur. Deneyler sonucunda; agac turlerinden Dogu kayini ve ceviz saricama, tutkal cesitlerinden de PVAc tutkali PU tutkalina gore daha yuksek cekme direnci gostermistir. Cekme yonlerinde ise, boyuna yonde elde edilen sonucun, radyal yondeki sonuctan daha basarili oldugu tespit edilmistir

Comparison of the withdrawal strength of different joint techniques for wooden end to end joints.

Bu calismada, farkli agac malzemelerden, farkli baglanti teknikleri uygulanarak hazirlanmis boy birlestirmelerin cekme mukavemetleri karsilastirilmistir. Deney ornekleri, Dogu kayini (Fagus orientalis L.), saricam (Pinus sylvestris L.), mese (Quercus borealis L.), kestane (Castanea sativa Mill) ve ceviz (Juglans regia L.) odunlarindan hazirlanmistir. Baglanti teknigi olarak; tutkalli birlestirmelerden zivanali ve kavelali birlestirme, tutkalsiz birlestirmelerden de vidali, minifiksli ve maksifiksli birlestirmeler secilmistir. Tutkalli birlestirmelerde yapistirici olarak polivinilasetat (PVAc) ve poliuretan (Pu) tutkallari kullanilmistir. 5 agac turu, 6 baglanti teknigi ve her ornekten 10 adet olmak uzere toplam 300 deney ornegi hazirlanmis ve statik yuk altinda boyuna cekme deneyine tabi tutulmustur. Deneyler sonucunda, en yuksek cekme mukavemeti cevizde, en dusuk cekme mukavemeti ise kayin ve kestanede elde edilmistir. Baglanti tekniklerinden en iyi sonucu zivanali birlestirme verirken, en dusuk sonuclar maksifiks ve minifiksli birlestirmelerde elde edilmistir. Tutkalli birlestirmelerde, Pu tutkali, PVAc tutkalina gore, zivanali birlestirme de kavelali birlestirmeye gore daha yuksek degerler vermistir

Determination of Screw Holding Strength of Some Wood Materials

Bu calismada, Dogu kayini (Fagus orientalis Lipsky), saricam (Pinus sylvestris L.), mese (Quercus borealis Lipsky), kestane (Castanea sativa) ve ceviz (Junglans regia) malzemelerinin radyal, teget ve boyuna yonde vida tutma mukavemetleri arastirilmistir. Bu deneylerde bes tur agac, uc farkli vida cekme yonu, iki tip sabitleme ve her degiskenden on tekrar olacak sekilde toplam 300 adet numune hazirlanmis ve statik yuk altinda dogrusal vida cekme deneyine tabi tutulmustur. Deneyler sonucunda, en yuksek vida tutma mukavemeti ceviz, en dusuk ise kestane odunlari uzerinde elde edilmistir. Agac malzemelerin ozgul agirligi arttikca, vida tutma direnci de artmaktadir. Genel olarak radyal yonde cekme, teget ve boyuna yonde cekmeye kiyasla, teget yonde cekme de boyuna yonde cekmeye kiyasla daha yuksek vida tutma mukavemeti gostermektedir
