Nonverbal Explorations of Construing: Drawing Menopause

In this article, nonverbal techniques for eliciting and elaborating constructs are discussed, with a specific focus on drawing. Drawings made by women taking part in a series of menopause workshops are used, along with case studies, to illustrate the way in which the use of nonverbal as well as verbal means of eliciting constructs helped the women move toward control and choice in their meanings of menopause. We suggest some factors to consider as diagnostic indicators to guide therapy when using drawings to help elaborate a persons construct system.
