Supplement (1953-1954) to Doctoral Dissertations in Musicology

THE FOLLOWING SUPPLEMENT has as its aim the faithful reporting of current activity among students of musicology at the doctoral level in colleges and universities of the United States since the publication of the original List in 1952. It may be said that, although this Supplement still falls somewhat short of its goal, the response to the request for information has been substantially better this year than last. As in the List of 1952, Part I reports completed dissertations. In a few instances a dissertation reported in 1952 has been repeated here. This has been done when additional information has been obtained, as for example, the publication in 1953 of Walter Woodfills dissertation (University of California at Berkeley, 1940). Dissertations dating before 1952 are included if the information has been obtained since the publication of the original List, as for example, the dissertations written at the Chicago Musical College. It will be understood also that most of the dis-
