Model to assess the reliability of electrical joints

Electrical joints can be weak points in the electric supply system. Based on theoretical and experimental investigation, a mathematical model is presented which describes the resistance characteristic of joints depending on parameters such as conductor material, load, design, assembly quality and its surroundings. Furthermore, using the example of busbar joints, a possibility of how limiting values for the joint resistance can be determine using a mathematical model.

A diagnostic system for live electrical joints in power transmission systems

Electrical joints increase their resistance depending on load current and environmental stress. For this reason joints have to be diagnosed in service in order to obtain information about their momentary state. This is mostly done by an infrared snapshot. Based on an analysis of the current method we will demonstrate its shortcomings and an improved new method will be shown.
