Performance evaluation of VoIP and video streaming over Wimax IEEE 802.16d and 802.16e

Firdaus; Etika Nuraini; Hendra Setiawan

VoIP and video streaming is one of the cheap and fast communication technology. Both of this technology use the internet network on its transmission. In order to get good performance, it is need an high speed and wide coverage internet network. One of the solution is WiMAX network. This research analyze the performance of VoIP and video streaming over WiMAX network (IEEE 802.16d for fixed-nomadic user and IEEE 802.16e for mobile user). The method is simulation on OPNET Modeler 14.5 software, and using 20 MHz and 10 MHz bandwidth. The parameters measured are jitter, throughput, delay and packet loss. The good performance can be get when using the greater channel bandwidth. Packet loss is better when using IEEE 802.16e. There are 8 users served when using channel bandwidth 10 MHz and 16 users when using channel bandwidth 20 MHz.

LTE network planning based on existing base transceiver using a genetic algorithm

Hendra Setiawan; M. Fahri Rian Dinni; Dwi Ana Ratna Wati

This paper discusses about an implementation of genetic algorithm in Long Term Evolution (LTE) Network planning. The network planning specifies for a particular provider in Sleman region case that has 119 2G/3G existing base transceivers (BTS). Based on calculation of 4G technology, actually 62 eNodeB are enough to support user capacity in Sleman. A genetic algorithm (GA) is employed to choose 62 out of 119 BTSs that has the maximum coverage. To get the best network planning, the optimization is done in both district and region area. Then, the optimization results are verified using Atoll to get the performance of the network. The verification shows that the optimization result of district area has better performance than the optimization result of region area. However, the optimization result of region area has wider coverage and smaller blankspot than the optimization result of district area.

Gong note and gending latar recognition on robot dance

Deny Rahmalianto; Izzati Muhimmah; Hendra Setiawan

Indonesian Robotic Competition is an annual robot competition conducted by Indonesian minister of education. One of branch competition is robot dance whereas robot should dance according to Indonesian traditional music. The aim of this study is to make an application that is capable to recognize instrument especially gong in javanesse traditional music so that it can helps future development of robot dance in simulate instrument recognition. Recognition methods that are used in this study is on time domain and frequency domain. Furthermore, pattern recognition also provided in two version, namely realtime and non-realtime. Result of this study is an application to recognize gong in a music. Evaluation result shows pattern recognition is successfully recognise the gong note in time domain.

Design technology in wireless mesh network system for eruption disaster mitigation of Merapi volcano

Firdaus; Syarif Hidayat; Alvin Sahroni; Hendra Setiawan; Rois Akbar

Indonesia is one country in the world that has the biggest natural disaster risk. That is because the position of Indonesia which is located at the confluence of three plaques Indo-Australian, Eurasian and Philippines. One of the disasters that often occur is the eruption of a volcano that is indeed one of the most active volcanoes in the world located in Indonesia called Merapi volcano. Currently, monitoring a volcano still rely on measurements on site and remote monitoring using camera and outposts near Merapi volcano. It is becoming less effective due to the efficiency and effectiveness of the key staple of disaster mitigation process. This paper provides a new approach to monitor the state of the Merapi based on ambient temperature in Merapi using wireless mesh network system based on Zigbee modules, effectiveness and reliability found in volcano monitoring which the level of reliability of a particular node at a distance of 200m and can perform data transmission when multiple nodes are damaged and the data is sent successfully.

Design and simulation wimax networks 802.16d and 802.16e in Sleman

Fidaus; Isra Darmawan; Hendra Setiawan; Ferdyan Pradana

Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) is a wireless broadband access technology that is widely used. WiMAX has a wide coverage and can be used in non-line-of-sight conditions so appropriate for rural areas. This paper shows the design of WiMAX network in Sleman using IEEE standard 802.16d/e and performed simulations use OPNET. Distribution of the user based on the population density of each district. Test of video services in IEEE 802.16d show poor quality in delay, and troughput 56 Mbps. Tests on voice services show poor quality in delay, and good-quality jitter. Tests on the http service are very good quality of delay (under 150 ms), and moderate packet loss. Testing for video services in the IEEE 802.16e show poor quality of delay. Tests on voice services are poor quality of delay, and good quality jitter. Tests on the http service generally very good quality on delay and troughput.

EEG data transmission over speech channel in the telephony system

Hendra Setiawan; Yusuf Aziz Amrulloh; Erlina Marfianti

In this paper we present the most implementable scheme for transmitting 19 channels electroencephalography (EEG) and speech signals simultaneously using a speech channel of telephony system. The proposed system works based on re-sampling, multiplexing and filtering concepts. Re-sampling is applied to adjust EEG sampling frequency such that appropriate with speech signal sampling frequency. The 19 channels are time multiplexed then mixed with the speech to produce a transmitting signal. In the receiver side, speech and EEG are separated by filtering. Based on simulation result in the noise environment, the proposed system has successfully separated the speech and the EEG signals. The correlation coefficient between the received signals after separation and the original ones are more than 0.8 for EEG and more than 0.7 for speech in 30 dB SNR. Moreover, the proposed system has high possibility to be implemented with low computational complexity.

Performance of blind source separation (BSS) techniques for mixed source signals of EEG, ECG, and voice signal

Alvin Sahroni; Hendra Setiawan; Erlina Marfianti

This paper presents a study of Blind Source Separation (BSS) application in telemedicine problem, especially during medical data recording. There are two techniques that will be investigated, Natural Gradient Method (NGM) and Fast Independent Coeffient Analysis(FastICA) with main source signals are Electrocardiograph (ECG), Electroencephalograph (EEG), and human voice signals. This study related the needs of doctor and patient to communicate each other in separate places, and also the doctor will be able to monitoring the EEG and ECG signals simultaneously during a call with the patients using a portable/mobile device that have been attached with additional module. Hopefully, while implementing BSS technique into the additional module for signal processing purpose, will increase the quality of medical outpatient system remotely. This paper reported that the performance of FastICA method is better about 80% effectively than NGM while separating mixed source signals of EEG, ECG, and voice Signal.
