Abstract FLEXSYT-II- is a microscopic simulation program for small scale networks, which can be used to study effects of all kinds of geometric alternatives, like bus lanes, roundabouts, separate left turnes, etc. and all kinds of traffic management measures, such as traffic control strategies, priority measures, ramp-metering, main-line metering, HOV lanes and toll-gates. A good example is the use of FLEXSYT to study the effects of ramp-metering. The model is validated with real-life measurements.

This paper presents the results from an experiment in the Netherlands in which floating car data (FCD) was used to derive travel times. The travel times were then compared with measured travel times. Results indicate that the FCD system is fairly accurate and can be applied to traffic information and traffic management systems.
