This interview was conducted in Copenhagen on January 23rd 2010 after Professor Nigel Thrifts keynote lecture on ‘Life World Inc.’, delivered at the Danish Sociological Congress. The interview takes as its starting point Professor Thrifts lecture but soon moves on to a broader discussion of resistance, politics, space, and architecture, among other things.

mer, Jeffrey Weeks and Elizabeth Wilson (whose works do not bring the term ’Victorianism’ to mind). All of them, in fact, have dealt extensively with the interrelationship of sexuality and gender. In other western countries, too, there are a number of sociologists who have made significant contributions to the study of this theme. However, although gender is now broadly recognized as an acceptable field of sociological work (provided it is done by women), sexuality is still far from such acknowledgement. (Can anyone imagine a
