Oxidations with cis-dioxomolybdenum(VI) tetra p-tolyl porphyrin

Abstract Tertiary phosphines are oxidized by cis -dioxomolybdenum(VI) tetra p -tolyl porphyrin. The rate of reaction is mainly dependent of the steric hindrance of the phosphine. Relevance to a possible mechanism of molecular oxygen activation by cytochrome P 450 dependent monooxygenases is discussed.
