Binary and ternary vapor-liquid equilibrium calculations for methyl chloride, dimethyl ether and methanol

Abstract Phase equilibria of three binary systems and one ternary system are calculated using two different predictive concepts. The UNIFAC method based on the group contribution of activity coefficients has been applied to predict the phase equilibria using published interaction parameters. With new group parameters for a new methyl chloride group, good agreement with published experimental data, even for the ternary system, was reached. A van der Waals-type equation of state is also used for the description of the phase equilibria. With binary experimental information, good prediction of the ternary system was possible.
