Stabilization of skyrmions via ϱ-mesons

Y. Igarashi; M. Hohmura; A. Kobayashi; Hideharu Otsu; Toshiro Sato; Shoji Sawada

Abstract It is shown that a skyrion can be stabilized by introducing ϱ-mesons into the chiral SU(2) L × SU(2) R lagrangian without higher-derivative terms like the Skyrme term. The ϱ-mesons are considered as dynamical gauge bosons associated with a hidden local symmetry of the non-linear sigma model. The lagrangian reduces to the Skyrme model in a limit of parameters. The Skyrmion mass M is found to be M = 1058 MeV when the parameters are fixed so as to satisfy the KSRF relation. It is also shown that a solition solution in a model with Ω-meson coupled with the baryonic current is a saddle-point solution.

Vortices in Two- Dimensional Anisotropic σ Models

Tadashi Watanabe; Hideharu Otsu

We define a topological number and clarify its role played in two·dimensional anisotropic (] models. Non·dissipative metastable states are obtained as counter·examples to which Derricks theorem cannot be applied. Each metastable state classified by the topological number q turms out to carry Iql vortices and Iql stagnation points for the cases of XY ·like anisotropy and to involve kl antiparallel core spins for those of Ising·like one. The range and strength of vortices are studied in detail for the XY·model obtained from present systems. The topological nature of the two-dimensional isotropic (J model was studied In reference to the classical Heisenberg magnets by Belavin and Polyakov. 1) They have demonstrated the existence of non-trivial metastable states producing the local energy minima. Pseudoparticles, which represent those inhomogeneous metastable states, are nothing but instantons in the nonlinear (J model in two-dimensional Minkowski space,2),3) and are known to be interesting objects of study in connection with the field theory for elementary particles. In this paper we would like to explore the topological nature of the anisotropic (J model Eq. (1). Since it could be considered as a model Hamiltonian without mass term of spins coupled by anisotropic nearest-neighbor exchange interactions:) we find it convenient to use languages of magnetism. The spin field is described by a three-component vector ¢(x) with interaction Hamiltonian

Vortices as Instantons in Noncommutative Discrete Space: Use of Z(2) Coordinates

Hideharu Otsu; Toshiro Sato; Shinsaku Kitakado; Hitoshi Ikemori

We show that vortices of Yang–Mills–Higgs model in R2 space can be regarded as instantons of Yang–Mills model in R2 × Z2 space. For this, we construct the noncommutative Z2 space by explicitly fixing the Z2 coordinates and then show, by using the Z2 coordinates, that BPS equation for the vortices can be considered as a self-dual equation. We also propose the possibility to rewrite the BPS equations for vortices as ADHM equations through the use of self-dual equation.
