Electric carts are used by many elderly people living in Japan. To guarantee driving safety under any road and weather conditions, it is very important to obtain the information needed to control the torque of the cart in a real-time fashion. A key item of information is an estimate of the normalized longitudinal force (NLF). This paper presents a method for estimating the NLF based on the equivalent-input-disturbance approach. It uses two estimators: One estimates the inverse of the equivalent inertial of a one-wheel model, and the other uses that value to estimate the NLF. Although the method is very simple, it produces a precise estimate. Simulations have demonstrated the validity of the method.

Abstract It is said that the number of engineers (expert IT, integration engineer, production engineer, and so on) in each field is insufficient in Japan. To aim at the high technology of Japan, the establishment of the efficient and effective promotion method of the engineer is demanded. The AIIT (Advanced Institute of Industrial Technology) provides a new education system that is able to satisfy this demand, that is the PBL (Project Based Learning) as engineer training system, and the AIIT has trained the professional engineer. The characteristics competencies defined by AIIT is a part of an important target in PBL. This paper describes the PBL and the competencies.

Abstract An asynchronous e-learning system that aggregates educational contents on a server and distributes them to students is widely used for the purpose of self-learning. Recently, synchronous e-learning, which enables students to attend a lecture from remote locations and learn interactively through real-time communication, has become more popular. In our work, we apply the combination of these e-learning systems to an advanced information systems architect education by PBL (Project-Based Learning). This paper describes our design and implementation of the blended e-learning style course on an analysis process of information systems development. Also, we report the result of the practice and educational effect.

This paper describes an instruction display for learning Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan), a Chinese physical exercise, which is practiced chiefly in China and also in other countries of the world. Its practice is believed to promote and keep ones health but most learners may have difficulties in accurately practicing it because of the complexity of Taijiquan motions. The instruction display helps the learners to understand and practice the motions simultaneously showing trajectories to be traced by their body segments, and actual positions of the body segments measured by tracking systems and sensors mounted on them. The instruction display also provides functionality that shows degrees of similarity between performed motions and experts one as index value of learners skill level.
