Clinical effect of Intal 2% Nasal Solution on otitis media with effusion (O.M.E.).

The effect of Intal 2% Nasal Solution was evaluated in 37 patients suffering from Otitis Media with Effusion (O. M. E.).The subjects were divided into two groups;group A: O. M. E. with atopic allergy (15 cases).group B: O. M. E. without any allergic factor (22 cases).1) The effect of Intal was significantly different in the two groups.The overall rating was excellent or good in 66.7% of group A and in 13.6% of group B.2) In group A, the effect of Intal on O. M. E. was especially related to its effect on nasal obstruction.3) The results suggest a relationship between O. M. E. and atopic allergy, for example nasal allergy.4) No side effects were observed in this study.

Motion Sickness and Nasal Allergy among Preschool and School-age Children

A survey of 7, 200 preschool and children between ages 6 and 15, for motion sickness and nasal allergy showed that 2, 600 (35.7%) habitually experienced motion sickness, with the incidence being higher among females, and that 1, 000 (13.7%) had symptoms of nasal allergy with its predilection for males.Comparison of these data with the data in 1963 showed that the incidence of motion sickness has increased tenfold during this 14 year period probably due to increased utilization of cars and buses.

Management of Nasal Allergy

1) 鼻アレルギー患者50名にセファランチンを使用し68%の有効を得た.2) 有効例には即時型アレルギーが多く, 無効例には遅延型アレルギーが多くみられた.3) セファランチンの鼻アレルギーに対する有効性は肥満細胞からの化学伝達物質の遊離阻止, 抗体産生促進作用などが考えられ, この点単独投与よりも特異的あるいは非特異的減感作療法との併用がより有効であると思われる.4) 副交感神経緩解作用は余り期待出来ない.5) 副作用は前記2例以外に認められなかった.
