An aluminum micro channel heat exchanger is getting replace for a fin and the tube heat exchanger used for an air-conditioner from the purpose of high performance and compactness. A heat exchanger for heat pump system is used to a condenser and an evaporator at the time of air-conditioning and heating, respectively. Then it becomes important for a balance to design both performances. A fin and tube heat exchanger was capable of the most suitable pass design from its own configuration. However, an aluminum micro channel heat exchanger consist of flat tube with small diameter multi-port, then pass composition is restricted by pressure drop of refrigerants. Therefore, we made optimization design for two rows of aluminum micro channel heat exchanger for heat pump system by an experiment and calculation. In order to evaluate the effect of pass design, the performance prediction for three different type of pass configuration was conducted in this study. As a result, we found a guideline of the compatible pass design for the evaporator and condenser under the conditions for an air-conditioner.
