Some of the experimental conditions of JIS A 1905 “Performance test of adsorptive building materials of reducing indoor air pollution with small chamber” are different from the actual building environment. The agreement between a decreasing effect resulted from JIS test method and that under residential indoor environment is suspected. The optimum experimental conditions resulting true effect were investigated with an experimental design. Within the scope of the performance test with 0.15m3 volume of a SUS small test chamber and a specimen of adsorptive building material in this study, appropriate experimental conditions are verified, namely optimum loading factor is 0.5m2/m3 and optimum supply HCHO concentration is 100μg/m3. The decreasing effect of a specimen resulted from a test under this condition is suited to the effect under actual condition.

In Japan, there are currently no standards or codes to test the performance of portable air cleaners in removing gaseous formaldehyde (HCHO) and volatile organic compounds, which have been classified as indoor pollutants that affect human health. The purpose of this study was to establish a method to test the performance of portable air cleaners, which are used to remove gaseous chemical substances. The method developed in this study was proposed before the ANSI/AHAM AC-1 was established in 2002. The proposed simple gas generator, original “single-pass” testing method, and results for five air cleaning devices offer useful examples for related studies and might help improve current standards.

This paper continued to the first paper and described the simulation tool to calculate whole energy of various types of buildings for business use. In this tool, the target type of building has been expanded to an office, a commercial building, a hospital and a hotel. The energy calculation flow of air conditioning follows the office version (Refer to the first report). This tool can be calculated in each room that input by visualized method. Other energy consumption is calculated by a different method according to the energy consumption structure of each building type. In this tool, the input is simplified by enhancing the default data made based on the result of regression analyzing the investigation data. If peculiar information in the building is clear, calculating in detail without using the default data is possible. Finally, the authors verified the calculation accuracy of this tool with the actual data of ten buildings.
