Real time DVD-R recording has been newly achieved for camcorder use. Developed technologies are a unique area-dividing technology for the unrecorded area of a DVD-R disc, and a buffering technology using a unique valid range, and a new title management method with a large number of recording times for camcorders.

We have developed an MPEG-2 CODEC LSI with audio accelerator for camcorders. The audio accelerator assists audio CODEC processing on the host CPU, and enables us to use a low-performance host CPU and contributes compactness and lower power consumption for camcorders.

A new-type camera, HDD/DVD hybrid camcorder, was proposed, whose advantages are; (1) long-time recording on built-in HDD, (2) disc interoperability with DVD players, and (3) stand-alone dubbing function (times2 speed). The new camera, actually developed cost-effectively, is already in the market. This paper presents technically how the HDD/DVD hybrid camcorder was designed effectively.

A Blu-ray disc (BD) camera was developed with high definition (HD) video technologies; (1) 5 mega pixel CMOS imager, (2) H.264 video codec, and (3) BD compatible recording. The BD camera enables one-hour HD video recording.

A real time recording system, corresponding to recording on a DVD-R disc, has been newly developed for the DVD camcorder, where a unique area-dividing technology for the unrecorded area and a buffering technology are used. A large number of recording times was achieved using a title management system.
