Adjusting Method and Effects of Two-Ball Rolling Type Swing Damping Equipment for Ropeway Carriers

To enhance transport safety and reliability of ropeway systems, it is essential to reduce the swing of the carriers by wind. As for swing damping equipment for the ropeway system, passive equipment which does not need a power supply can be realized easily for the system. In this passive equipment, it plays an important role to give damping force to additional mass in order to reduce the resonance amplitude of the ropeway system with this equipment. This paper proposes two-ball rolling type damping equipment in which damping force to additional mass is generated self and makes clear an adjustment method of parameters of this equipment. The effects of this equipment that we confirmed by simulation and experiments are reported as well.

Improvement of Windproof Performance of Ropeway Carriers (2nd Report, Possibility of Improving Windproof Performance by Means of Aerodynamic Devices)

In order to increase the safety and reliability of ropeway systems, it is extremely important to improve windproof performance of carriers since the excessive swing of the carrier by wind may lead to a serious accident such as a collision with the columns. As a means of improving the windproof performance of ropeway carriers, this paper presents aerodynamic method using additional aerodynamic devices such as fairing device and wing device. The results of wind tunnel tests showed the good effects of lower fairing device and semioval wing device on the aerodynamic characteristics of a carrier.
