Application of New Evaluation Method of Sheet Appearance to Various Coated Papers.

塗工紙の重要な品質の一つに白紙の「面感」があり、近 年ますます重要視されるようになってきている。この「面感」 とは文字通り塗工紙表面を見たときの「感じ」であるが、そ の良否は微視的に均一性を感じるか否かである。微視的 に不均一さを感じる塗工紙には微小な光沢ムラが存在して おり、塗工紙の場合、この微小な光沢ムラが「面感」の良 否を決定すると言われている。塗工紙の面感、すなわち 微小光沢ムラは、多くの場合目視で判定されている。しか し、目視判定では個人の主観が入りやすく、且つ定量性 に欠けるため、機器を使用して客観的定量的に評価しよう という検討がなされている。藤原らは、走査型微小光沢 度計を用いて微小光沢の変動を求め、その大小から微小 光沢ムラを評価する方法を報告している。また、MacGregorらは画像解析装置を用いて各波長範囲毎に抽出した 光沢画像と目視の微小光沢ムラとの相関を調べ、0.4~ 0.8mmの波長における光沢の変動と相関性が高いことを 報告している。 我 は々この微小光沢ムラが塗工紙表面の微小な凹凸の 不均一性によって生じると考え、白色光を光源とする光干 渉方式の非接触式三次元表面粗さ計を用いて塗工紙表 面の微細形状を精度良く測定・解析し、塗工紙の白紙面 感に影響を与える因子について検討した。その結果、新た な面感評価法の開発に至り、かつ種 の々市販塗工紙へ の適用性とその有用性が確認されたのでここに報告する。

Hollow Polymer Latex for Paper Coating

Hollow polymer latex are developed for paper coating by unique method which applies the shrinkage mechanism during polymerization. We develops two types of hollow polymer latex, the plastic pigment type and binder-pigment type with binding ability. Our hollow polymer latex are hard to crash on the calendering process. The coating containing them can provide excellent brightness, opacity and gloss. The binder-pigment type hollow polymer latex can reduce the cost of the coating.They can be used for the various kinds of coated papers, especially the light weight coated paper.
