THE A1-13-PHOSPHATOANTIMONIC ACID SYNTHESIS AND ION EXCHANGE PROPERTIES

Hisham M. Aly

Abstract ABSTRACT The AI-13-phosphatoantimonic acid Al-13-Sb3P2O14.x H2O has been prepared starting from K3Sb3p2O14. Thermal behaviour has been studied using TGA and DTA. pH titration curves of Al-13-phosphatoantimonic acid with alkali, hydroxide solutions (Na+, K + and Li+) shows a very promising ion exchanger. However, the capacities of the alkali metal were 4.08, 4.32 and 7.2 meq/g for Li+, Na+ and K+ respectively.

Kinetic Studies of Some Actinide Ions Exchange on Al‐13‐Phosphatoantimonic Acid

Hisham M. Aly; Eman M. Kamar

Abstract The kinetics of exchange of thorium and uranyl ions on Al‐13‐phosphatoantimonic acid (Al‐13‐PAA) was studied in nitrate solution at pH 1. The investigations were carried out under particle diffusion mechanism and the limited batch technique. The effects of particle size, concentration, and temperature have been studied. The effective diffusion coefficient, activation energy, and entropy of activation have been evaluated. The exchange capacity was evaluated and found to be 0.9 and 0.7 meq g−1 for uranyl and thorium ions respectively.

Chromatographic studies on the uptake of cobalt and uranium from nitrate solution on Al-13-phosphatoantimonic acid

Hisham M. Aly

Abstract Chromatographic extraction of cobalt and uranium from nitrate solution on Al-13-phosphatoantimonic acid and Dowex 50X8 resin at 0.6 ionic strength and pH 2 was studied. Saturation capacity was studied and found to be 0.8 and 0.5 meq/g for Co 2+ and 1.1 and 0.8 meq/g for UO 2+ 2 ions, using Al-13-phosphatoantimonic acid (Al-13-PAA) and Dowex 50X8, respectively. The effect of flow rate and on the column performance was investigated. Theoretical plate height and Van Deemter equation parameters were also evaluated.

Chromatographic study on the uranium uptake from nitrate solution by different ion exchangers

H. A. Dessouky; M. M. Abdel-Badei; S. M. Khalifa; Hisham M. Aly

Chromatographic column investigations were performed for the recovery of uranium from aqueous medium of pH 1.0 and ionic strength of 0.6M/NaNO3/, which is comparable /in its chemical activity/ to certain high active waste solutions. Six different active beds were tested and compared in terms of their capacity for uranium, height equivalent to theoretical plate and their numbers. The main uranium species present in the medium were elucidated.

EQUILIBRIA AND KINETICS OF COBALT, NICKEL, AND COPPER ION EXCHANGE ON TITANIUM(IV) ANTIMONATE

Hisham M. Aly; Gehan S. El-Din; Ahmed A. Taha

The ion exchange equilibrium of cobalt, nickel and copper metal ions/H+ system were studied on Titanium(IV) antimonate in aqueous media at 30, 40 and 60 °C. On the basis of particle diffusion control different physical parameters e.g. the effective diffusion coefficients, activation energy and entropy of activation have been evaluated. Capacity measurements and titration curves have been determined. The obtained data were compared to those organic resin and inorganic ion exchangers. The influence of coordination number and the cation structure on the exchange mechanism have been studied on the light of the thermodynamic properties.

Utilization of colorimetric and atomic absorption spectrometric determination of aztreonam through ion pair complex formation

Alaa S. Amin; Hisham M. Aly

Three rapid and sensitive, colorimetric and atomic absorption spectrometric methods were developed for the determination of aztreonam. The proposed methods depend upon the reaction of cobaltthiocyanate (I) or reineckate (II) ions with the drug to form stable ion-pair complexes which extractable with chloroform. The greenish blue and pink color complexes are determined either colorimetrically at lambda(max) 625 and 525 nm for I and II reagents, respectively, or by atomic absorption spectrometry, directly using the organic extracted complex, or indirectly, using the supernatant. The three procedures are applied for the determination of aztreonam in pure and in pharmaceutical dosage forms applying the standard additions technique and the results obtained agreed well with those obtained by the official method.

INTERDIFFUSION MECHANISM OF ALKALI METAL IONS ON Al-13-PHOSPHATOANTIMONIC ACID

Hisham M. Aly

The kinetics of exchange of alkali metal ions on Al-13-phosphatoantimonic acid was studied. The investigations were carried out under particle diffusion mechanism and the limited batch technique. The effect of particle size, concentration and temperature has been studied. The effective diffusion coefficient, activation energy and entropy of activation have been evaluated. The effective diffusion coefficient of the alkali metal ions were found to be in order Cs > K > Na > Li. The relationship of Ea − ΔS* is discussed in the light of the structure of the exchange material.
