We define the requirement of the visible-light communication (VLC) transceiver for bidirectional high-speed and short-range communications and examine its practicability. VLC transceivers were implemented with edge-emitting laser diode and silicon photo diode, designed primarily to operate in a full duplex mode at 120 Mbit/s. The design of an optical antenna was also included in this paper, which is to alleviate the performance degradation due to tilting. Their bit error rate performance was examined experimentally with respect to the transmission distance, the coverage range and the tilt degree.

A visible-light communication utilizing LED has many advantagies such as visibility of information, high SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), low installation cost, usage of existing illuminators, and high security. Furthermore, exponentially increasing needs and quality of LED have helped the development of visible-light communication. The visibility is the most attractive property in visible-light communication system, but it is difficult to ensure visibility and transmission efficiency simultaneously during initial access because of the small amount of initial access process signals. In this paper, we propose an efficient resource allocation scheme at initial access for ensuring visibility with high resource utilization rate and low data transmission failure rate. The performance has been evaluated through the numerical analysis and simulation results.

We examine the practicability of the visible-light communication (VLC) transceiver for bidirectional high-speed and short-range communications. A visible-light peripheral interface could be a novel approach, visualizing the veiled security feature of light by employing visible lights as communication media beyond its intended applications, such as illumination and display. The proposed VLC transceivers are implemented with edge-an emitting laser diode and a silicon photodiode, which is primarily designed to operate in a full duplex mode at 120 Mbit/s. The shielding method that is employed to reduce the light cross-coupling effect inside the VLC transceiver is proposed and experimentally investigated. The bit error rate performance of the proposed VLC transceiver is examined with respect to the transmission distance and the coverage.
