This paper presents a Mobile Information Service Platform (MISP) based on multi-domain & multilingual ontology, which enables mobile users to obtain information by making natural language queries via short messaging, and the paper also describes the platforms evaluation results. Information services via mobile phones, closely linked to peoples daily lives, are now booming in the world market. The Short Message Service (SMS) is very popular in China, and it is more convenient for Chinese users to access an information service in natural language style via SMS. However, it is difficult for general natural language processing methods to achieve high processing accuracy. In this paper, a natural language processing method based on a Multi-domain & Multilingual Ontology (MMO) and Multi-domain & Multilingual Query Language (MMQL) is proposed. The MMO is used to provide domain-specific semantic knowledge, and the MMQL is used to provide domain-specific linguistic knowledge. Four categories of trial services, namely a traffic congestion information service, location-related information service, driving route planning service, and bus trip planning service, show that this MISP can provide considerate commercial-level services to mobile users.

This paper proposes a map ontology driven approach to natural language traffic information processing, and also describes its evaluation results Traffic congestion is considered a major urban problem whose solution has long been sought for by engineers and researchers Recently, the idea of gathering traffic information from mobile users via short message service appears promising However, the traffic information is difficult to process to achieve a high accuracy because of its direct, indirect and connotative expressions The proposed map ontology consists of a set of concepts, attributes, relations and constraints on them The map ontology plays two key roles: 1) a basis for natural language traffic information analysis, and 2) a basis for user query analysis In this paper we present the major information processing modules and services for mobile users Experimental results show that the proposed method can improve the traffic information processing accuracy to 93%–95%.

Information services accessed via mobile phones provide information directly relevant to subscribers’ daily lives and are an area of dynamic market growth worldwide. Although many information services are currently offered by mobile operators, many of the existing solutions require a unique gateway for each service, and it is inconvenient for users to have to remember a large number of such gateways. Furthermore, the Short Message Service (SMS) is very popular in China and Chinese users would prefer to access these services in natural language via SMS. This chapter describes a Natural Language Based Service Selection System (NL3S) for use with a large number of mobile information services. The system can accept user queries in natural language and navigate it to the required service. Since it is difficult for existing methods to achieve high accuracy and high coverage and anticipate which other services a user might want to query, the NL3S is developed based on a Multi-service Ontology (MO) and Multi-service Query Language (MQL). The MO and MQL provide semantic and linguistic knowledge, respectively, to facilitate service selection for a user query and to provide adaptive service recommendations. Experiments show that the NL3S can achieve 75–95% accuracies and 85–95% satisfactions for processing various styles of natural language queries. A trial involving navigation of 30 different mobile services shows that the NL3S can provide a viable commercial solution for mobile operators.
