An iterative estimation algorithm of carrier frequency offset for burst transmission

In this paper, a data-aided carrier frequency offset estimation algorithm with iterative structure for burst-mode phase shift keying (PSK) transmissions is proposed. Inspired by the work of Fiz, L&R, and the M&M approaches, the algorithm is based on the use of the autocorrelation-based frequency estimator and iterative eliminate the incorrect false frequency estimation caused by the modulo operation. Compared with the M&M estimation algorithm, it yields a comparable estimation performance with lower complexity. Simulation shows that the algorithm has a large frequency estimation range, about ± 40% of the symbol rate, and its accuracy is close to the Cramer-Rao bound for a signal-to-noise ratio as low as −3dB.

Semi-Data-Aided Frequency Estimation Algorithm for BPSK Burst Transmissions

This paper deals with frequency estimation for burst- mode transmissions in AWGN channel. A semi-data-aided (SDA) maximum likelihood frequency estimation algorithm is derived. According to the algorithm, known pilot symbols and unknown data symbols are used together in order that both estimation accuracy and spectral efficiency can be satisfied. The simulations show that the good performance reaching the CRLB of a large number of pilot symbols can be obtained at moderately high signal-to-noise ratios even when fewer pilot symbols are used.
