Transient over-voltage waveshapes measured by the monitoring system based on the 500kV CVT within a low-voltage capacitor C 3

In this paper, the transient over-voltage (TOV) online monitoring technology based on the 500kV capacitive voltage transformer (CVT) is introduced, including an voltage divider formed by the 500kV CVTs within an unit C3 (the low-voltage capacitor) and the development of an intelligent TOV monitoring system. Based on this monitoring system, some recorded typical TOV waveshapes are displayed and analyzed, which shows the feasibility and reliability of the online monitoring technology and system in long-term field application.

Research on the method for transient overvoltage measurement using CVT Within a capacitor C 3

A new method for transient overvoltage (TOV) measurements in 500kV power system using capacitor voltage transformers (CVTs) is introduced in this paper. It is realized with a voltage sensor installed within the CVT as the low-voltage capacitor C3 connection in series with the high-voltage (HV) capacitor C1 and the median-voltage capacitor C2. Simulations studies and laboratory tests in manufactory have confirmed the validity and practicability of this method, which can be used to measure the TOV of the 500kV power grid.
