Soliton controlling and steering in asymmetric nonlocal media with optical lattices

Existence and stability of the fundamental and higher-order solitons, which exist in nonlinear media with asymmetric response and periodic linear refractive index modulation, are presented. It is found that the existence of solitons results in the balance between linear refractive index modulation (optical lattices) and nonlinear refractive index induced by incident optical field. In addition, Dynamical properties of fundamental mode solitons are also investigated in detail, and may be applied in the fields of soliton controlling and steering.

An approximate solution for describing a fundamental soliton in nonlocal nonlinear media

In this paper, an approximate analytic solution is presented for describing a fundamental soliton in a nonlocal medium with exponential response nonlinearity, by employing a variational approach. By comparing it with the exact solution obtained under special conditions and a numerical solution, it is shown that this approximate analytic solution can provide a good description of the behavior of a fundamental soliton for a wide range of parameters, and in particular for a small energy flow.

Critical behavior of nonlocal fundamental defect mode

We reveal the critical behavior of the fundamental defect mode, which can be supported by an optical lattice with a local defect in the nonlocal nonlinear medium. In such a system, there are several system parameters, and it is found that whether the fundamental defect mode can locate in the defect or not depends on the parameter value higher or lower than its critical value. Furthermore, the critical values of these parameters are predicted in this article.
